Well, this is Great Britain. It was either that or send out a squad of cops to swarm a random person going out for a walk and shoot them in the head.

How about no!

"Well, damn... he was here just a minute ago..."

This thread needs some Shawshank Redemption references but I am at a loss. Lack of coffee.

They're afraid he's going to harm himself? While I'm glad that they care about the well being of their convicts, I think they should care more about the safety of the public than of the escaped murderer.

The 56-year-old, formerly of Oldbury in the West Midlands, was serving two life sentences for murdering and kidnapping a 16-year-old boy in 1995.

Giles would have been eligible for parole next year.

I guess they weren't life sentences

If that approach works, then expect to see...

Will all criminals please turn yourself in, please?
Will everyone who has exceeded the speed limit, please just send in your fine?
Anyone who has ever eaten a grape in the grocery store, please tell the cashier so you can be charged accordingly.
Anyone who has cheated on your taxes, please send a check for the difference.

All that goes through my mind, except with British people

It can't hurt to try.

She dumped me so I'll kill her brother. Yeah that will work.

Call in, so we can arrest you over the phone.

It makes a lot more sense than killing her. The true victims of a murder is not the dead person but its friends and relatives.

bbbut doesn't your spy agency keep tabs on everyone?

To keep them safe ya know? Murderer doesn't have a cell phone?

Guess you won't find him then...

NSCSB: I remember tossing a very large fire-cracker under some apartment dweller's car when I was a lad. It made a nice report, and soon thereafter a window on the third floor flung open, and some fat guy started hollering at us.  The guy continued yelling at me and my buddy as we ran away.. "Hey you two, stop! Stop! Come back here, now!" from his third story window in the building. We yell back "Yes sir, right away!" as we kept on running. That made me laugh pretty hard.

As we started to slow down, my buddy said "Yeah, let's go back and toss one up to him. How long do you think it'll take him to climb down those three flights of stairs?" - and we laughed so hard at the whole situation it nearly paralyzed us.

So yeah, asking a hoodlum to turn themselves in is pretty dumb if you asked me. The world might be a better place if civilized people who obey the laws would learn this lesson at a young age, and stop expecting people to do the right thing.

So they say, "He might hurt himself".

So farking what.  Let him.  That's one less guy in jail to worry about.  And you were planning on letting him go out of 2 life sentences next year anyway.

And how, pray, did he escape to begin with?  I didn't see that in TFA.

Uh... you're wondering why they won't tell people how to escape from their prison?

Maybe she dumped him for her brother?

In other news, a guy with two life sentences is placed in an Open Prison; that is a joint where the residents have their own key to the door so they can keep the ruffians out and are entrusted to stay indoors at night.

Would this happen in Arizona anyone?

Sure it does.  Being eligible for parole doesn't mean you're going to get it.

Tell them they won a free boat and need to claim it in person. Problem solved.
