An attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, which helped the girls challenge the rule, said Tuesday night the school had been hinting that it would petition the Supreme Court.

"I'm just really surprised that they're so determined to fight this speech case of all speech cases," said Mary Catherine Roper. "(The bracelets) didn't cause any problems in the school."

It's like an ugly divorce case or a politics thread. At some point it stops being about the actual issue and starts being about people's bruised egos.

Good analogy.  And few egos are as easy to bruise as a local elected official's.

According to the school:
Boys seeing bracelets that say "I heart Boobies" = DISRUPTIVE! DISTRACTING!
Boys seeing actual boobies on girls = Not disruptive or distracting

School district solicitor John Freund said the district had the backing of the National School Boards Association and the Pennsylvania School Board Association. He said they and other organizations are "concerned about the implications of a hyper-sexualized environment," The Express-Times reported.

Whew.  And I thought I was the only one turned on by breast cancer.

Can't someone just give money without being all attention whorey about it? Stickers, car magnets, bracelets, pins, flags, banners, etc. Enough already. Our self worth should not be defined by how much other people think of us helping others.

As a Pennsylvanian, I apologize to everyone. We left our village idiots out again and they went about harassing teenage girls and wasting money.

We will have them remitted directly to Florida or Texas where they can no longer do harm to thinking people.

The Easton Area School District board voted 7-1 Tuesday night to appeal a federal appeals court's decision that rejected its claim the bracelets are lewd and should be banned from school.

There's nothing more stupid that wasting money that was designated for education for tilting at windmills.

I suppose that is par for the course for this mentally deficient species of human that get to be school officials. Orangutangs could do a better job.

8080 brains in a quad-core Pentium world.

Any farkers personally know any school officials? Is there say a maximum IQ say about 60 that they accept upon hiring?

Do they feel ashamed of their profession when their peers act like they were beaten with the stupid stick?

Maybe the board is trying to drive home the fact that the money spent on those things has a 99.9% chance it's NOT going to anything related to breast cancer. I guess if a person had to choose between feeling charitable or feeling scammed most would choose the former. We're all aware, please give to research instead.

My sister watched The Ring and House of Wax in school and is still traumatised by them today. She's notably afraid of large candles, a bit less since we worked on exposure therapy. Teachers are still baffled as to why she wants to get excluded from further horror movie showings.

But boobies? OH EM GEE SINFUL.

JohnCarter: THIS

The school board voted to continue not the superintendent.  School boards are full of people that want/need a power trip.  Most of the ones I see only get on the board for something that benefits their child that is in the school, especially if that child is in sports.

I like the 1 guy's rational:

FTFA:
"The lone board member to vote against the appeal said the district should just drop the matter.
"I think we should be done with it. Let it go. We lost 20, 30 times, I don't even know anymore," Pintabone said."

Obviously this guy has no future in politics.

Eps05: My sister watched The Ring and House of Wax in school and is still traumatised by them today.

House of Wax is rated R and would have zero percent chance of being shown in any school especially since that movie came out in May 2005 so DVD would not have been available until 2006.

The Ring is PG-13 but again I'm very doubtful that would have been shown either.

I graduated in 98 and they never showed any kind of horror movie in school.  If she was in HS how can someone be "traumatised" by a movie?  How sheltered do you have to be that a movie at that age would scare you that bad?  Hell when I was in Junior high I used to rent and watch all kinds of horror movies and the only one that had any effect on me is damn Jaws but I was like 6 when I watched that (without parents permission of course).

School districts have this problem at EVERY level, down the the classroom.  There are still people who become teachers so they can bully students (Ala "Pink Floyd The Wall").  It's one of the reasons there are so many problems.  My superintendent growing up was a MAJOR power tripper.

This is a waste of time.  The problem is they are going to win and get their way.  SCOTUS is in a position where they say "students have rights" while simultaneously letting administrators do whatever they want in the name of "order."

I've never seen someone want to be a teacher so they can bully a student.  Now don't assume I'm a teacher lover I feel they have it really nice and complain way too much but I think you have it wrong.  Some principals and superintendants I'm sure are like that but I think a lot want the upper positions for the pay.
