You mean the market for a luxury niche car might be saturated pretty quickly?

Tesla may be a bust in 10 years or insanely profitable. Either way two week fluctions in its stock price will have shiat to do with it.

So the mega hype of the last few months has worn off and it may be getting to a reasonable level?

I don't suppose subby was making a reference to the Chevy Volt recall due to its battery potentially catching on fire.

I'm shocked.  A company that produces a luxury product with a P/E ratio of 775 that has yet to show a quarterly profit is speculative? SHOCKED I tell you.

Imagine if Toyota stock dropped 5% every time somebody crashed one.

The stock is up almost 300% since it started its big rise in May and nearly 500% year to date.

Anybody who didn't see this coming is....well... probably buying Google next.

Because the stock is up 240% in about 8 months it's obviously a major failure.

WTF Indeed: You mean the market for a luxury niche car might be saturated pretty quickly?

This has nothing to do with sales--they are still selling as fast as they can produce them--and is all about the stock being perceived to be a little overpriced, which is probably true.

This is what happens when you have a bunch of very nervous people in long positions with huge unrealized gains who will jump at a pin drop.

One bad article = "Sell, Mortimer!  Sell!"

It doesn't help that states like NC want to ban Tesla cars, because umm some reason or other and nothing to do with the campaign contributions.

The best part is that the stock went up about 6% from when they wrote the article in the morning to close with a small gain for the day.

Two things. Kudos to the article author for the troll-tastic headline. Subby didn't even need to embellish it at all. Also from TFA:

"Tesla has also been vulnerable to breaking news events. A car fire on Oct. 1 was cited for a sharp share drop the following day. And a second one over the weekend in Mexico has been cited for this week's slide as well. Both fires followed significant accidents."

Cars may catch on fire after a "significant accident?"

There are a lot of big time financial pundits that got their asses torn short selling TSLA.  They've been making a huge deal out of any slight issues that come up in hopes of salvaging their positions a little.

Marketwatch was actually half-decent before WSJ bought them out.

Buy or sell on p/e ratios or other financial considerations, but not on the belief that this company is a flash in the pan. I recently spent a week at their plant doing technical training. Tesla is making really good cars and doing so with smart and ethically sound business practices. I went in expecting nothing and came out thoroughly impressed. They have a long term outlook and really care about customer satisfaction.

I wasn't a fanboy 3 weeks ago, I am now.

Exactly. Stored energy is stored energy. If you blow your wad, so to speak, all at once, you're gonna have a bad time.

It's kind of funny that the same people who say "But batteries are so daaaaangerous" will also say things like "Oh EVs will never catch on.  You simply can never match the energy density of gasoline".

Timing was bad for me...I was just finishing up school and had zero money to invest.  Still don't, really.  I don't feel comfortable taking out loans to make investments with no matter how "sure" I am.  But there aren't that many opportunities for 10 fold increases in a year.  I have a couple of friends who bought Models S with the proceeds from their TSLA investments.

And over the past 10 sessions, Tesla has gained in only three.

I realize that trading is becoming increasingly short term, but are we seriously using 10 business days as a barometer for how a stock will perform now?

I paid low as well, I got in right after the IPO, when the stock dropped to about $19 a share back in 2011. Glad I hung on to them unlike when I dumped my apple shares when I bought at $270, and sold when they hit $370. Now they are hovering in the $500 range.

I'm dumping every cent I have into TSLA because of the highly anticipated release of the Howard.

/obscure?

TSLA valuations are so far beyond reasonable I wouldn't get anywhere near that stock.  Even Elon Musk thinks so  http://money.cnn.com/2013/10/25/investing/tesla-netflix-momentum-stoc k s/

/SCTY Another Elon Musk stock up massively this year that has no basis in valuation

I do think the section outlined will cost 10B or more.  But that's still a killer deal.

There is a lot of work going on in the background to try to bring it to reality.  It's going to be challenging as fark, but it is looking promising.

That narrative is just the result of snarky journalists who were offended that Elon Musk didn't end the white paper by explaining that he was going to quit his other jobs and personally green a wrench and start working. Honestly when you are trying to start a colony on mars you don't need to come up with AW gimmicks.

/yes, it's a thing.
