Ok, I can see a new gardener accidentally weed eating some coreopsis or something, but how do you accidentally cut down a bunch of boxwoods trained into letters?

Yeah, it's not like "the weed wacker slipped" excuse is going to work here.  It would have taken a lot of time and effort to remove those bushes...

Yeah, not accidental.  "Hey I burned down your house but I thought it was a cigarette.  Sorry!"

meh. Wait a few months and it'll grow out. Attempt to kill our boxwoods every year by cutting them to the ground. They always come back. Always.

I was hoping their response would be to officially rename the park "Ty Park." Better name anyway, with a great story behind it. Who the hell names a city park City Park?

Seconded.
What's the great response here exactly? We'll replant some more and try to trim them to remake the two letters?

No....those things are 3'-4' tall...at that point boxwood shrubs have a root system that stretches several feet in every direction.  A lawn mower, unless it's attached to a much, MUCH larger tractor wouldn't even bend them, much less take them out.

/took a shovel and a Jeep in 4WD to pull the ones on my yard out and they were only a couple of feet tall.

I think the greatness is the lack of response. They could have fired the guy and gone after him for damages. Instead they said "Meh, no biggie, accidents happen. Not the end of the world. Now, let's try to fix it."

And for those saying it wasn't an accident. The story is short on details but I doubt he was using a hand-held weed whacker, he was probably on some piece of industrial ride-on equipment. Accidental could also mean being given erroneous or misleading instructions, possibly by the city itself. And the city seems to think it was unintentional. Sounds like an accident to me.

"That would be called a mistake," City Park spokesman John Hopper (a graduate of the John Madden school of inane commentary) told Gambit this afternoon. "Some mistakes are bigger than others."

/ You know, two teams show up to play each game. One team will score more points than the other. Most of the time, that's the team that wins.

There's a beach in Hawaii that used to be called Wanini Beach until a disgruntled local literally took a shotgun and blew the W off of the sign.  In true island fashion, the rest of the locals just shrugged and said "Sure, that works too," and it's been Anini Beach ever since.
