Jesus, that's pathetic. The whole "Successories" model of trying to motivate somebody by throwing a quote on a wall is already a great big leadership fail, but the Browns took it to a whole new level.

Meh, it's Cleveland. Most of the people there can't read. And if you play football and live in Cleveland, its just an accomplishment you know how to get to the practice facility every day.

What else were they going to decorate the walls with?

It's not like they need to display any Super Bowl trophies. Or AFC Championship banners. Or AFC North Champion flags. Or plaques commemorating winning seasons.

It's fitting that shiathead Banner, who pronounced the Eagles the NFL's "Gold Standard" when he was the Eagles GM, is responsible for that trip down Misattributed Cliche Lane.

Every Browns Fan I've Met This Week:

"Man, we played really well against that undefeated Chiefs team. Our defense is good, and our offense was capable with just a mediocre backup QB. This proves that Brandon Weeden was the most awful QB ever and that we're just a franchise QB away from being competitive. So amped for this off-season"

Me:

The "rally around the QB" phenomenon is not new, I have zero faith in this front office to produce anything good from the draft, we still have holes at every offensive skill position except for TE (and Josh Gordon, our only good WR, is one failed drug test away from a year suspension), and any CB not named Joe Haden on this team is terrible. Oh, and Alex Mack and TJ Ward are free agents at year's end.

I refuse to put any stock into the Clowns until I see a legitimate starting QB on the roster.

Also, that Jason Campbell can make the team look decent-ish against the league's top defense while only taking one sack, that is truly an indictment on Brandon Weeden. He's only two years older than Weeden, and way more seasoned. Also, somehow more mobile. But Jason Campbell is a known quantity in this league. He's not horrible, but he's not a franchise QB. I think this should also put to rest any notion that we should be handing the starting job to Brian Hoyer next year because of two and a half good weeks this year.

Also, the Browns should sign a new QB and just cut Weeden already. That ship has sailed. He's been benched for two different career backups now. If Campbell gets hurt, there's nothing good that can happen from Weeden going out there. Sign someone like Graham Harrell or Tyler Thigpen for the rest of the year. Might as well.

Why? They got Barkevious Mingo, who seems pretty good. And they fleeced the Colts for a first-round pick for a 3 YPC RB. The current front office has done a pretty good job. The last front office crew was awful.

I'm sorry, but they have two.  That you don't think either Campbell or Hoyer is good enough is your problem.

Meanwhile, I've kept saying this: I said before the previous regime drafted Weeden: If they draft a quarterback in the first round, they would be gone by the end of the next season.  And I was right.  I am saying it again with this regime: If they draft a quarterback in the first round next year, they'll all be gone by the end of that year.  It seems like whatever GM is brought in is determined to "leave their mark" on the Browns, by bringing in "their guys" to replace the previous regime's players, no matter how good or otherwise they might be.  Thus, all the marks that have been left look like scars from an angsty teenager cutting herself.

The only two draft picks that have worked out for the Browns long-term since they came back are Joe Thomas and D'Qwell Jackson.  And that's pretty much due to the inconsistency at the organizational level, leading to inconsistency in the roster, leading to inconsistency on the field.  The only way I'll see Jimmy Haslam as any different from Randy Lerner is if he decides to truly let Banner and Lombardi work instead of firing them after or midway through their second year, like pretty much every regime since Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark has had happen to them.  The "cycle of losing" I keep talking about starts at the top. Randy Lerner perpetuated it, and now Jimmy Haslam has a choice: to perpetuate the cycle of losing, or to give the organization some cohesion for once.  And it really doesn't matter if they get 10 wins total the next two years or 10 wins next year; tossing everything out and starting fresh starts the cycle of losing anew.

IAmRight:

Mingo hasn't done much of anything, and local beat writers are talking about how he'll need to put on weight to actually be able to do much against NFL offensive linemen this year. Their other high draft pick was Leon McFadden in the 3rd (previous regime forfeited the 2nd drafting Josh Gordon, 4th and 5th round picks were traded). McFadden hasn't cracked the starting lineup, instead the team has opted for 5'9" Buster Skrine to cover opposing #2 wideouts. It has not gone well.

I liked the Richardson trade. And I like that they traded a 4th round pick last year for a 3rd this year (Steelers) as well as getting a 4th this year for last year's 5th. But they've done nothing yet to warrant confidence in their drafting skills, and given Lombardi's history of failure with the Raiders (hard to pin it all on him given Al Davis, but at the same time it doesn't warrant confidence), I see no reason to be optimistic.

IlGreven:I'm sorry, but they have two.  That you don't think either Campbell or Hoyer is good enough is your problem.

I like Hoyer and Campbell. They are marked improvements. They are not franchise QBs. Everyone knows this. They are quality NFL QBs who make either good game managers or excellent backups. You don't win super bowls with average QBs unless your defense is a monster. I'm not advocating, necessarily, that the Browns go QB or bust in the draft. I don't think you should draft a QB unless you're in a position to get a true franchise QB. If it turns out that the Browns do well enough to not get a high draft position and all the QBs on the board are Brandon Weeden quality, I'm fine with rolling with Hoyer next year. But don't expect me to get excited about a team that could maybe be as good as the 2009 Houston Texans.

If you want to build around Hoyer as your franchise QB (assuming he even gets back to full health), the defense needs to be the best in the league, and the running game needs to be very good. That's not happening by next year on either front, even if we have an awesome draft.

I don't understand the trolling quote meme that combines three different characters.  Wouldn't they be better (and less obvious) if they just used two?  One quote with a second picture/name?

Fair enough.  I once tried to slow-play a trolling of a grammar nazi thread with the verb definition of "effect" and went way underappreciated. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/effect" to  produce as an effect; bring about; accomplish; make happen:  The new machines finally effected the transition to computerized accounting last spring. ")

Lions have been winless twice, but the first time was in 1942, when they went 0-11.

Also, the Columbus franchise went 0-fer in 1922 and 1925, but obviously they're long gone (folder after 1926).
