On Monday, a federal judge ruled Texas' new abortion restrictions unconstitutional on the grounds that the regulations violated physicians' right to do what they think is best for patients and unreasonably restricted women's access to abortion clinics.

Novel idea.

The state legislature only puts these sort of evocative measures on the ballot to ensure that the hyper-militant "conservative Christian" types turn out to vote.  While they're there in the voting booth, the Fundies also put a check mark next to the names of the Republican candidates running for office.

Convenient, ain't it?

Omahawg: yup. I read that in the latter years of the reagan administration (or maybe it was early bush?) and I looked on the tee vee at ed meese and pat robertson and I'm all like "hmm....."

Yeah, it's a book I can't believe I hadn't read yet, I can see how it could seem more real with the times continuing as they are.

You're going to freak out when you learn about miscarriages.

God is the biggest abortion provider of all.  Something like a quarter of all pregnancies naturally end in miscarriage, usually so early on in the pregnancy that the "mother" didn't even know she was pregnant!

WE SHOULD PREEMPTIVELY CHARGE ALL WIMMIN WITH MANSLAUGHTER!!!!

If you haven't read The Handmaids Taleit's worth the read and scary in a way but very relevant I just read it a couple of months ago and all this crazy has been so strange yet familiar.

I just read that! It was...well it definitely put some things into perspective.

Weird. Definitely eerie.

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is seceding too?

It's a trade. We traded the UP for Canada's sections of the Great Lakes, plus Lake Nipissing and a small section of Ontario. I think we came out ahead.

Again, why is it whenever anyone has a different point of view than our Fark Progressives, that person is a troll?

THAT is the lamest cop-out ever.

It's because you're transparently posting as a negative attention seeking mechanism. Like when my dog tries to dig a hole in the rug because he feels ignored or when a toddler paints shiat on the wall. It's nothing to do with the content or point of view.

Glad I could help.

Wow - thanks for telling me what I was thinking. I was confused for a minute.

Any who - I stand by my statement. The abortion culture celebrates (see comment above: "Yea!") what I feel is murder.

I am Pro Life. I know that's a wildly unpopular stance here on Fark.

But that's not what you said.  You said people who are pro-choice are celebrating murder.  I mean....it's less than a 40 post thread, it's not like you should be confused at this point at how you conducted yourself in it.

It's a pretty blatant / confirmed troll account, dude.  Not even a competent one.

The Sharia one sure was.

Wat?

It sharia was only part of the bill. They got an aweful lot of support with the international law gambit. Oklahoma is low information voter to the extreme. Honestly, I had liberal democrats, for whatever that passes for here, argue with me about civics over this. People in this state are honestly, and not ironically worried about this.

rummonkey: Alien Robot: "In answering questions posed by the U.S. Supreme Court, the court ruled that the law 'restricts the long-respected medical discretion of physicians' ..."

and

"On Monday, a federal judge ruled Texas' new abortion restrictions unconstitutional on the grounds that the regulations violated physicians' right to do what they think is best for patients ..."

So if a physician in his discretion decides that a prescription for medical marijuana is best for his patient, then will laws restricting that patient's access to marijuana also be struck down as unconstitutional? Same argument, same logic.

---------
Tired logic. Get it legitimately legalized first and then you can make an apples to apples comparison.

Also, shoehorning your pet greivance into an unrelatedtopic is a little immature, or trollish. Dunno which, don't care, I just felt like taking the bait this time.

Circular argument. Access to a doctors' use of abortion wasn't "legitimately legalized" either until the judge ruled it unconstitutional. Both were illegal in Oklahoma and Texas prior to the rulings. If the one is unconstitutional because it violates a "physicians' right to do what they think is best for patients" then so should be the other.

To what extent?

No abortions ever? Fits trimester? First week? In cases of rape or incest? What if the mother's life is seriously at risk (ectopic pregnancy)? Some Farkers are quite reasonable. But extremists (i.e. no abortions for anyone ever) are always going to be scrutinized... whether or not it's Fark.

i can't remember were these the laws that passed awhile back I can't really remember but I believe one of them, if you wanted an abortion the doctor had to show you an ultrasound of the fetus.  another law (might have been part of the same law) was if the mother's life was in danger the doctor wasn't allowed by the law to tell the mother that an abortion would save her life.

If I recall correctly, the subject of pregnancy by rape (say what you want about that legitimate bullshiat) and incest was brought up, and one of the proponents actually said, what about the unborn child?

/Uncle Jeb knocks you up but under the law you have to carry to full term and live with that for the rest of your life.

Only thing I'd want is a clean environment with trained professionals. If we have that already we're gold ;) I would, however, love to see people praticing SAFE SEX so the child most likely won't happen in the first place...

And of course, many of the same folks working to outlaw abortion also want to ban sex-education, so the would-be parents never learn what SAFE SEX entails.

/Yeah, parents should teach their kids this stuff. A lot of them don't, so the rest of society is just gonna have to do it for them.

I'm no parent, but I want kids to learn how babies are made (in a serious setting, or at least facts and comedy works). Also, I have an idea.... first time, teach the person getting the abortion about safe sex. Second time, force her to take birth control.... third time, neuter her. Rapists, once caught, spay them.

You know not everybody is pro-abortion. Fark has convinced me that there is a significant portion of America that doesn't know that other people have different opinions. I don't think Fox News or MSNBC help that.
