I always thought his name was Lou Vega.

pretty sure those were the only three tweets confusing these two, and they were sent by Lou Bega's friends and family to get him some press.

That's great, I was worried I'd never hear mambo #6.

I was in Germany as it rose to popularity there.  Then when i returned to USA it started getting airplay here.  I had to witness its overplayedness twice.

This qualifies as a near-death experience.

List full of God-awful crap...

Jeez, you'd think we would have closed out the millennium with a more profound set of tunes. What a waste.

I will admit, as much as I hated "Mambo No. 5" back in the day, I do think that "I got a girl" was catchy.

/My musical taste wasn't that good back in the day...

"Lou Bega tried to clear up things after fans reportedly mistook him for Lou Reed"

I seriously doubt this, you're not much of a fan if you don't know the guys name.

It was the late 90's when I stopped listening to the radio (except NPR). Every once in a while I flip through the stations and everything still sucks or it's the same songs from that time period. It's sad to see nothing has changed in the past 15 years.

I dunno. Any point in time regarding music has its good and bad songs. When I listen to the modern rock music stations in Boston, they tend to play a lot of songs from the 90's and early 2000. It's easy to go back to any music period to point out the group of songs that are crap.

I love that song. It reminds me of the good old days before everything became hyper-politicized. The 1990s really were a good era.

1971 has to qualify as the strangest year for Top 40 music. A morbid song about a plane crashhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClJLrxGClxk and a tune about cannibalismhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGNdvKvbxYQ both charted that year!

Wingnutwillie: pretty sure those were the only three tweets confusing these two, and they were sent by Lou Bega's friends and family to get him some press.

The first thing I thought was that he orchestrated this himself to get some publicity from the death of someone who actually matters.

FTFA:  According to Bega's website, he recently released a new album, "A Little Bit of '80s"

My god, he is still milking that awful novelty song from 15 years ago that he didn't even write. It's in my head now, and I want to punch someone.

I refound that song recently. Normally if I enjoy a song due to nostalgia I can still be like, 'This song is wack as hell, but it takes me back.' But there's something about that song that is really dope despite how mad 90's it is.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH, just as I was reeling from having to hear 'Mambo #5' over and over on TV during those god awful Party City commericals.
To compound my near-aneurysm-inducing hatred of that song, there's 7 versions of it on those commercials!

I had a guilty pleasure for "Steal My Sunshine," I confess. That hook drew me in. The hook came from a song called "More More More," which was sung by then-porn star Andrea True (who had also performed as Inger Kissin, Singe Low, Sandra Lips, etc.). True recorded the track in Jamaica in an attempt to use money she'd made appearing in real estate ads before a political crisis in the country left her penniless.
