I would really like to think that they are doing this for the sale of worker's health or well being. But let's be honest. They are doing it so that they can be paid less.

I'm not seeing it.

This was making fun of Goldman's attempt to be a more cuddly place for workers.  That's not what the H-Dog columns were about.

Even for a Gawker report, that article was pretty shiatty. To save you time, the article states that GS are giving their junior bankers weekends off.

Except that's not really true.  If the newbies work an average of 60 hours per week instead of 80 hours per week, each employee is paid less, but you need to hire more newbies, so the overall pay level won't change.

I suspect that the real ancillary benefit of this to GS is that if they need to hire more newbies, they have a larger pool of them to choose from for promotions, leading to a stronger workforce.

Ted Cruz gets his health insurance thru Goldman, so it can't be a terrible place to work.

No, they had that intern die earlier this year after working like 6 straight days. This is just PR. Next spring it will be back to normal

I'll have to admit that is a job I'd love to have for five to ten years before running off and being a philanthropist and working on my man about town blog.

Doesn't matter. That's not my point. If the TFA was so bad -then it doesn't require a comment. Yet you are always here defending them. Do they pay you? If so, how much?
If you do work for them, can you quit or will you end up like Sergey Aleynikov?

You're assuming they get paid more for working more.

Why is anyone commenting on a stupid article that is so bad I can't tell whether they are slamming Goldman or supporting them? Because it is fark.

You can be paid to post on fark? Wow. How much do labor unions pay you?

Law firms have been pulling this same bullshiat dance for years - it's a total sham.

They tell you that you're not expected to work 100 hour weeks, nights and weekends.  They may even tell managers to force employees to go home or close the offices on weekends.

This is a lie.  You absolutely still have to put in those hours if you expect to finish your assigned work and also get ahead on partner/promotion track.  You just have to take your work home and do it away from the office.  It's actually MORE time consuming to do it that way.  But this way the Senior Managers get to claim champagne-toasts and credit for making the firm more "family friendly" or "improving working conditions for junior associates" because that's what the official personnel manual says.  Just try working only 50-60hr weeks and see how fast your ass ends up on the curb.

Also, terribly written article that looks like a poor copy/paste job from the Onion.
