Someone help me out with this experimental design.  I want to discover if people look more at women's bodies than their faces.  For what I guess would be called control purposes(I'm sure I got the technical term wrong) wouldn't I have to have pictures of both genders so I could determine if one gender was being looked at differently than the other?  This seems as though the experiment which offers 10 pictures of women sets itself up for a predetermined conclusion.  Could not another possibility be that people look at others and examine them by the same method as opposed to only examining women by that method?

For me the face is the most important part of physical attraction. Most guys seem to be the other way around. Nice body or not, I'm not properly/fully interested unless the I like her face. For me a nice face can make up for a less than nice body but not so much the other way around.

Body is very important as far as primal lust in concerned, but the face is still more important.

But like everyone I want both.

Meh.

You don't need the male samples unless you're interested in /why/ men and women has this behaviour.

What they were testing was whether the myth that the body was more interesting than the face, even when asked to not consider the body, was based on reality or not. For this the male samples would be irrelevant.

No.  The study didn't seek to learn whether people look more at women's bodies than those of men ... it sought to learn whether people look more at women's bodies than their faces.  All you need for this study are lookers, women's bodies, and women's faces.

My 4 cents:

Depends on why the guy is looking.  Looking for relationships tend to be faces if the body isn't obviously out of whack(you can tell if she's 400lbs before you even get to focus on the face).  For most guys the body isn't as important as the face.  She could be a smoking ten, but if her face is screwed up she may have a hard time finding partners.....conversely, plenty of bigger women with pretty faces have an easier time of it.

Just looking, taking in the scenery, could be anything. Mood affects this a lot, what you happen to be thinking about.  Random for all intents and purposes.  Anyone who tends to look at only X is a bit on the obsessive(and shallow) side.

Some form of work environment(during actual work, not lounge time), typically face unless something's on display(cleavage, for example, or boils / moles, just because someone's staring doesn't mean they like it).  that goes for "just looking" as well. Anything out of the ordinary pops to the forefront be it hot or disturbing...or disturbingly hot.

Every guy is different, so saying 80% of guys look at asses is useless.  We ALL look at asses(and boobs, and legs, and faces, and hair), just not all of the time, and some of the time, no one is looking at an ass.

And now that I think about it, most people, myself included, yeah, we have preferences, I love redheads, for example, but that doesn't really factor into personal interactions....I don't ignore blondes.  That's more for when we're browsing porn.

I do have an aversion to things that are displeasing, attitude to cleanliness to lanky hair.  I'd wager that in practice, it's not that guys look for specific traits, just that there are traits which buy a lady demerits.  A big one, or too many small ones, and you look elsewhere asap, unless that trainwreck fascination hits you and you have to stare.

Not bad became a standard judgement for a reason.  "Not bad" is good enough for most guys. Unless her attitude sucks donkey nuts, then she has to be hot.

We notice their body first because women tend to dress in a way that draws attention to it, otherwise I usually notice their face/hair first.
