And Jacksonville's not that bad- their opponents' combined win-loss ratio is more than 75%
Not a lot of people are saying Kansas City's going to win the Super Bowl this year. If it makes you feel like a genius to point their weaknesses out, go for it. Beat your chest when they lose their first game. Point to your giant sized brain, and tell us how smart you are.
I'm just going to enjoy the season, something we haven't been able to do in a few years.

2013-10-29 11:07:31 AM
Remind me, what was their record last year?  Oh yeah, 2-14.  Lets see any other team in the NFL go from 2-14 to 8-0.  Just because they aren't a perennial favorite doesn't mean they aren't championship material this season.

2013-10-29 11:31:52 AM
Certainly the KC fans should enjoy the 8-0 start.... fans should enjoy wins and winning.

But, looking at their schedule for others and analysts is what they do.... and you can certainly call their first half schedule "soft".... but, that is a good order to do it.... being 9-0 entering these games gives you extra confidence that they might not have if they'd played Denver in week 3.

I hope they are undefeated when they come to Indianapolis...where perfect season's come to die....usually Peyton Mannings, but still...

Seems to me this year is that you are a winning team if you have a good quarterback, you are a losing team if you don't

The rest is just noise

Whether go 16-0 or 10-6 they will still lose their first playoff game.

2013-10-29 11:54:47 AM
They aren't the number one team in the power rankings, just the standings.  At only half way through the season, there is a significant difference.

A win is a win. Just ask the Jaguars.

2013-10-29 11:55:29 AM
Nope.  Best football team in the National Football League.  ESPN wouldn't say they were if they weren't.  Those guys do not over-hype anyone.

Wait, so do the Vikings still suck? I'm confused.

2013-10-29 11:58:30 AM
According to their perfect 8-0 start, the Kansas City Chiefs are the best team in the NFL right now. However, considering how bad the team's they've faced so far have been, and the quality of quarterbacks playing against them (half of them backups), it's a bit early to crown them as the Crème de la Crème of the league

He put so much effort into "Crème de la Crème" that it's adorable he made "teams" possessive.

Gotta love sportswriters.  So well informed, and yet so clueless.

The Chiefs aren't the 85 Bears, but they've some things going for them in the playoffs.     One of the best home field advantages in football, they don't turn the ball over, a very good defensive front 7, and an open air stadium with possible cold January weather that could neutralize elite QBs in the playoffs.

Their whole damn schedule is soft due to not-Colts in the AFC south sucking, the NFC L-EAST, the Bills and the Browns.  That's 9 wins, then add in 2x Raiders and garbage Defenses on both the Chargers and Broncos.  Seriously there isn't a way to arrange the schedule to make it not soft

Even exceptionally bad teams can pose a threat to an exceptionally good team. Didn't we think Denver was going to wipe the floor with Jacksonville a couple of weeks ago and pull the starters by halftime? Going undefeated in the NFL is no small potatoes, even for half a season.

Peyton better quit turning the ball over and their defense better step it up or else they are going to keep losing to teams that have both a functioning offense and defense.

So, should they return the wins?  Or should they voluntarily move themselves to second place in the division?

Everyone biatching about the Chiefs schedule can fark off.  Last year's Chiefs team would be 1-7 against this schedule.  No way they beat Dallas, Cleveland or Tennessee.  This year's team is beating the teams they're supposed to beat.

People put too much stock in records and not enough in matchups.  The Titans and Browns both matched up well with the Chiefs and gave them fits. The Chiefs still won.

Certainly, but until then they've been the benefit of some easy scheduling and a bit of luck.

That doesn't make their 8 wins any less important. It's not like you only get 2/3ds of a win for beating a weaker team. Come the last few weeks of the season every one of them will count towards playoff positioning.

So, in other words, they may not be a top tier team, but so far they've done exactly what they're supposed to do and it's hard to fault them for that.

/After all, it's not like CFB, they didn't make their own schedule.

The   NFL is a high variance, short sample size league that decides it's champion based on a single elimination tournament.   No one in the NFL should be ashamed of having luck, when the NFL purposely sets up it's league to encourage luck playing a huge factor.

From TMQ:  After then, we will know whether Kansas City is for real -- or is 'the Baylor of the NFL', the presumption being that Baylor will collapse when encountering the upcoming difficult part of their schedule.

Hey!  As far as we know, Baylor is not the 'Baylor of the NCAA'!   Baylor might hang 70 on that overrated OU squad.  Sure, flying pigs and butt monkeys, but pick on ranked teams whose schedule consists entirely of wannabees, like Fresno St. and NIU, before dogging the Bears.

Up until the Colts game last week, the teams that they faced had identical winning percentages. I don't think it means much other than giving KC fans hope when the two teams play each other, but I do think it shows that we should take the Broncos with a grain of salt.

We're discussing their schedule so far. They haven't played the Chargers or the Broncos yet.

Most of the "soft schedule" talk is because KC has gotten incredibly lucky, especially with opposing QB injuries. But they've won all the games so far, soft or not. It's going to be very interesting when the AFC West goes head to head in a couple weeks.

For all the talk of KC's soft schedule, aren't the Broncos playing essentially the same schedule with two games swapped out? Instead of Buffalo and Cleveland the Broncos get to play Baltimore (who they already beat) and New England (who they should have no problem beating). Either with KC or Denver, we're looking at a potential 13-3 (if not better!) Wild Card team coming out of the West.

So . . . who has played a tough schedule in the AFC?  The whole conference is pretty weak this year.

The Patriots look pretty ordinary.  Tom Brady is still the man and will make sure they make the playoffs.
The Bengals?  Really??  Um, how about no?
The Ravens and Steelers, two AFC stalwarts, are really bad this year.
The Texans are done.
Does anyone trust the Chargers?  I didn't think so.
Everyone else not named the Broncos, Colts or Chiefs are just plain bad.

So ya, AFC is wide open.

/Broncos & Chiefs play essentially the same schedule, people,  That's what happens when you are in the same division.

Everyone biatching about the Chiefs schedule can fark off.  Last year's Chiefs team would be 1-7 against this schedule.  No way they beat Dallas, Cleveland or Tennessee.  This year's team is beating the teams they're supposed to beat.

They beat who they were supposed to beat so far, and there's nothing wrong with that

As for last year, they had most of the same talent, the team just totally gave up on Crennel, and they tanked halfway through the season. The people who are talking about this miraculous 2-14 turnaround ignore that fact.

2013-10-29 12:47:02 PM
Since the Chiefs were the worst team in the league last year, the strength of their schedule at least partially reflects that.  If a shiatty team brings in a good QB, and a proven coach, odds are that they will improve.  I'm cautiously optimistic about the Chiefs ... we'll see what happens when they play out their schedule, especially within their own division.  They really haven't been tested yet, and they've been EXTREMELY lucky this far.

2013-10-29 12:47:32 PM
My secondary hope for this season is that the Giants manage to win their division.
