If they send these messages up, Aliens are not gonna have any clue what they mean (if they receive them, that is)

These messages are in several languages. How are they going to be able to tell the languages apart?

They could find patterns, but it would be very hard to do so

One language would be the best.

I am not saying it should be English, or French, or Russian, but just one language.

Dear Residents of Gliese 526,

You'll be receiving several messages from Earth about this time (I'm writing 17.6 years in your past). Please disregard the bulk of them. Most will be from hare-brained twatwattles who may say some very bizarre things. We are only recently descended from the trees and still tend to squeal, rant, gibber, and prattle in an embarrassingly non-civilized way. Fortunately for you, we have not mastered interstellar travel.

Sorry for the bother,
Earth

Its hard to translate English into math. Sure, mathematics is the universal language, but mathematics (that we know of) cannot express something such as "love" or "feelings", or even something like "tree".

Your nam-shubs aren't likely to work on aliens with totally different brain chemistry.

Message to aliens:
Please cut the back yard and water the plants.

Dear interstellar travelers,

You're kind of freaking us out by letting your teens take the ship out for a spin. Please remind your kids not to do an "Earth Fly By" anymore because we just don't get it and most of us are getting our panties all bunched up. So, please stay off our lawn!

Thanks,
Pinner

What if they send messages back? I remember reading about this guy (totally crazy) who believed that old school Bayesian poisoner e-mails were from either 1) the semi-self aware internet or 2) aliens who were trying to direct the course of human society by directing people to penis and breast enlargement pills, pornography, dating websites, cheaper anti-depressants and stock tips for alien backed companies.

Gliese 581g would be a better target.

Actually, you can express everything via math.  Math is the underpinning of *EVERYTHING*.  With sufficiently complex math, you can describe anything.
