Damnit, I thought Google finally revealed when that damn Nexus 5 is getting released. My HTC Desire decided over the weekend that it doesn't want to have a working mic. 3.5 years of heavy use, but it's time for something new.

I expect the result would have been the same with one of those Gideon Bibles in the way.

Likely low-KE round perhaps .25ACP, or one that had ricocheted or passed through something else first to shed energy.

HTC Evo 3D 4G!  That's my phone!  I really like it despite the fact that it's getting to be outdated.  Knowing it can stop small-caliber bullets puts at least one check in the "keep" column.

/Really wish someone else would run with the whole built-in 3D camera thing.

Holy sheet, you're still using a 3 1/2-year-old phone? I get rid of mine after a year or so. (AT&T customer service will let you get a warranty replacement for anything, and if you're nice, they'll replace it with something different. I claimed my Galaxy S II Skyrocket was having difficulty holding a charge, so they set me up with a Moto Atrix HD. The Skyrocket's warranty expired a week later.)

People who get worked up over who has what phone are about as bad as Kardashian fans and Beliebers. I recently switched from a Galaxy to an iPhone. Each has their positives and negatives. I like the iPhone battery much better, but, the galaxy was much easier to navigate the ios and control what was actually on the phone.

Bottom line is, get the fark over it. Pick whatever phone you feel best suits your needs and quit giving a shiat about the rest. Its only a farking phone.

This. Except for a few brand sycophants and/or people with very specific tech requirements, they all do the same shiat and they're all about the same quality. I switch from Droid to iPhone every other upgrade, for your average Facebook/Instagram/Email user, it's the same crap.

prjindigo: Alternate headline:  "A .380 isn't actually a handgun."

A .380 is a shorter (by two millimeters) bullet than a 9x19mm (which is essentially what people mean when they say "9mm"), and I highly doubt you'd call a SIG P226 or a Beretta 92FS (aka M9) anything but a handgun. Now, if you're talking about guns which fire the .380 cartridge, some of them are weird, but the majory are fantastically good. (The Waltr PPK can be had in .380 ACP, and that is most definitely an awesome pistol.)

Really, that this (old) phone survived a .380 speaks volumes to its durability. Meanwhile, if you look at an iPhone wrong, the glass shatters...

The iPhone uses the same Gorilla Glass as the other brands, so I would expect the same results, no matter what propaganda has been pumped into your empty head.

The phone has a bullet hole in it. Other than that, it is intact. (Nonfunctional, sure, but not really my point.) It's bullets resistant, which is not something most manufacturers test for.

Sure, the iPhone uses the same material, but when's the last time an Android phone shattered because it dropped two feet onto a wood floor?

Maybe you'd like to test your iPhone--which , you clearly own one--for bullet-resistance against other phones. Otherwise, shut up you goddamned fanboy who can't stand to see his Jesus Phone talked about in a slightly negative way.

That's one technique.

The other is to wear something bright and distracting.  Witnesses notice the outfit, not the person, and you ditch the outfit quickly.

My Sony Ericsson Z500a would have laughed in the face of that bullet. Built of plastic, sure, but I threw that thin at concrete at a pretty good clip and all it showed was a small, superficial nick in the paint.

Phones were seriously made stronger back in the day. My old Nokia brick could potentially have survived a nuclear blast...

I dunno man, I've accidentally thrown a phone out of a moving car which then got run over in traffic...the screen was shattered but everything else worked fine. I bought the same phone secondhand on ebay, swapped the SIM card in, and used the busted phone as a backup battery charger. I could see this working (to some extent) with a bullet hole.
