They're about two years, maybe three behind on this meme, it's been an internet standard for a while.

My favorite one is still probably Wes Anderson't God of war:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rylS-X0s-KM

His Owen Wilson has a little too much Alan Alda in it.

It should be a little more Jim Hensony.  Because Owen is a Muppet.

I'm sorry, but the mere notion of it is spine-tingling enough.

I was always partial to his Spider-Man.

That was a pretty terrible Owen Wilson impersonation.

Edward Norton isn't much of an actor, is he? I mean, he has a very limited range. Which is fine, but he seems to think he's some kind of awesome chameleon-like character actor, when he really isn't. At all.

The phrases "chameleon like" and "character actor" are anathema.

No Sad Sack Bill Murray? I think it aimed at but didn't hit the pretentiousness.

Yeah, but Owen Wilson's not much of an actor either, so this fell right into Norton's range.

Not only that, but he's allegedly a pain in the ass to work with.  He insists on taking creative control of the characters he plays rather than sticking to the script.  This is the reason why he didn't play Bruce Banner in the Avengers; the director and producers wanted a guy who would actually follow the script instead of making changes as he saw fit.

Wes Anderson would never make a horror movie.

It would frighten all the children on the set he's trying to sleep with.

That said, sometimes his input does make for a great character and movie:
Fight Club
The Illusionist
Death to Smoochy
American History X

The guy has a pretty good resume.

It's not better than this, which is over 7 years old.

Kaiser Blade: Moonrise Kingdom was a god damned work of art.

Totally agree.  He created a world that distilled the mid-60s, and he didn't rely on all the usual horrid cliche crap that so many lazier filmmakers do.  Plus he took two awkward kids, unknown quantities, and made them the leads, in a movie that is pretty much for adults to watch.  That takes guts.

That's true.  I kept expecting to pop up in a cameo or at least have one of the cast members impersonating him.

You missed it. In a veritable virtuoso tour de force of acting, the equivalent of a no-hitter being pitched by someone who also just bowled a perfect 300, every character you saw there was actually Bill Murray.

Norton is hit or miss, when he's into the movie and wants to be there, and is having fun doing it he can pull off some amazing roles. Other times, meh not so much.

Did it look good? Yes. Did it have ANYTHING to say about ANYTHING? No. Not even a little bit. It's fine to have enjoyed yourself, but people who fall all over themselves to compliment that film need to get their heads checked.

I thought it was fantastic and his best film. However, I approve of the word "twee".

Wes Anderson movies are the best Saturday morning hangover movies. Especially life aquatic.

Low key, no one shouting and a story with just a hint of the absurd to keep your interest.

As for moonrise kingdom, the scene where the girl tells the boy that she wishes she was an orphan is freaking awesome. His response of "I love you but you are wrong" and her shocked look and quick "I love you" is the moment that makes the movie.

Not to mention that the SNL version includes actual actors from Wes Anderson movies in it, and actually manages to capture Wes's visual style (as opposed to simply mimicking the acting style).

Also, the fact that they try to create their own (albeit generic) storyline and characters, rather than just "God of War meets Wes Anderson."

Complaining that the joke has been done before like complaining that the new steakhouse in town is making the same food that other people have been cooking for thousands of years.  That might very well be true, but it completely misses the point.

I enjoyed it, but it was a tiny slice of a particular aspect more than a distillation.

and him being as established as he is, I don't think it took too much.

It was better than that, and by a lot.  That was only watchable once you get rid of the music and pretend that it might be a Wes Anderson trailer of some sort.
