Some of those look interesting.  I guess I could put the Deep Space 9 marathon on hold for one evening...

I have premium cable now and discovering that besides some of their original programs, there is also nothing to watch except maybe when they get that one new movie once every two months. And none of them are showing scary movies now either unless you count the 500,000th airing of From Dusk Till Dawn (that airs year-round anyway.) Show some goddamn horror movies.

Got a recommendation, if anyone is interested: Side Effects.  Roony Mara, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta Jones, directed by Stephen Soderberg.  Pretty good movie with some mildly surprising twists.

This is my plan as well. Even after the regular episodes started to go south there were still some gems in the Treehouse of Horror ones.

Just watched "Vacancy." Really liked it and it was scary enough. No gore or blood, just good ol' fright.

Well, their movies aren't up to interest level.  But It's going to take a few years for me to go through the shows that do keep my interest, which I don't have more than 2 hours a night if I'm lucky to watch.  So, cable can sit in a corner and play parcheesi for a few years until I'm ready to be charged a hell of a lot of money for the grand total of 5 channels that are the only ones on cable that interest me.

Especially since Netflix has added a few new ones I've been wanting to watch *shakes fist*  NETFLIX

2013-10-28 01:31:57 PM
You think Netflex is bad? Netflex Canada has about 3,000 movies or TV shows, about a third of the US stock.

Personally, I have over 2,100 items recorded in my database of DVDs, VHS tapes and BluRays, so that means that in terms of quality my collection is better, at least if you like comedies, cartoons and sitcoms. I nearly equal Netflix Canada in quantity as well because one item in my collection can be the whole series of a TV show or a collection of up to 100 movies. This does not include what I have purchased through iTunes, which sucks because even on the iMac it keeps skipping and freezing.

I also have a fair number of SF and horror shows, most of which I haven't watched, so Halloween should be an embarras de richesse.

Regardless of the poor stock (I ran out of movies to watch at Blockbuster in about a year through the exploitation of their six movies for a week deal), Netflex is worth the small sum of money charged each month provided I watch one or two items a month, so I recommend it. At least it doesn't freeze up every few minutes.

I have most of the Simpson Halloween specials on DVD or iTunes so I do like to watch them at Halloween. I also have the Simpson Treehouse of Horror comic books (did you know about the Simpsons comics?) and they are as good as the TV shows, being drawn by many great guest cartoonists and written by guest writers. The Great Sergio Aragonès is a frequent contributor to the Treehouse of Horror stories as well as a regular cartoonist in the comic books. His style adapts beautifully to the Simpsons world.

My horror movie preference runs to the old B&W classics and B movies. Color ruined horror by substituting gore and blood for plotting, characterization and suspense. Most of my unwatched horror movies are recent.

Not that I am adverse to a little gore. There are some very good modern horror comedies and some of the slasher movies aren't bad either. But most of them are tripe.

Here's a short list of some great horror comedies made since 1970:

Bad Taste
Clowns from Outer Space
Shaun of the Dead
Cannibal: The Musical
Young Frankenstein
The Addams Family
Bubba-Hotep
The Man with the Screaming Brain
Army of Darkness
Beetlejuice
(and the cartoon series)

And here's some really great old classics that make me laugh:

Spider Baby
Freaks
The Old Dark House
(1930s version)
Bride of the Monster
The Night of the Living Dead
The Night of the Living Bread
(short)
Plan Nine from Outer Space
Frankenstein meets the Space Monster

And don't forget Riff Trax, MST3K and Cinema Titanic. You can buy their riffs on bad old movies several different ways, including Video on Demand or get many MST3k movies free on YouTube. The two competing sets of guys from MST3K even do live riff shows in various theatres in the USA and Canada and you can watch those online.

Out of sheer amusement, I watched "The Collector" recently. It didn't disappoint.

For the amusement, I mean.

/I'm still giggling over how long it must have taken to rig the dance-club... talk about an overachiever.
//Thought the pressure switches studded with nails was a clever touch.

Oh hidy ho officer, we've had a doozy of a day. There we were minding our own business, just doing chores around the house, when kids started killing themselves all over my property.

VHS is fantastic, but VHS 2 is even better; the one story that takes place inside of a cult compound kept me awake the night I watched it.

Every one whom I've recommended T&DvE too has come back and thanked me. The topic of the old game Redneck Rampage came up recently and someone said it couldn't be made today, as it is maybe not, but if you wrap it around the Tucker and Dale universe, then you have something

I enjoyed "Let the Right One In". "A Romantic Horror story"? Well, OK...

"Oskar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire."

This scene was sad, terrifying, and sweet. What a weird combination. Good job, movie-making-person.

Brilliant movie.

I wish they'd included the zombie-vampire anal rape scene from the book though.  Think I'm joking?

I watched all those short movies - they varied from good to very good, but for me they were light on for actual creepy moments, with the exception of two:

2 AM Creepy man is creepy.
Cat with hands.  No sir, no thankyou.
