I didn't post this. You did not see it.

Hubbard was a hoot, he used to be one of my pen pals back in the 70's. I absolutely love SCIFI.

His followers are a bit extreme though.

Theaetetus: Voiceofreason01: WhyteRaven74: Google got a patent for a floating data center a few years back. I'd wager dollars to donuts that's what this is.

WTF is wrong with the patent office that something like that is patentable?

Yeah, allowing someone to patent a giant machine that's never been made before and which presents all sorts of unforeseen challenges? What's next, granting a patent on a medicine or new metal alloy? Hmmph!

Seriously. WTF is Voiceofreason01 on about? There are plenty of ridiculous patent applications for things that should not be patentable (human genes, for example), but knowing what little I do know about this facility, it seems very patentable to me.

/just authored and filed a provisional patent earlier this month

Actually, didn't that one end up in San Francisco Bay in the series finale?

"mysterious floating barge" only a little bit less mysterious than "mysterious sinking barge"

Macular Degenerate: Here's the article about said Portland facility. Nobody knows what's going on. Made the front page of the Sunday paper.

From that article:
The one in San Francisco Bay was built on top of a barge with the registration "BAL 0010," while the one in Portland harbor is on a barge with the registration "BAL 0011."
...
Now the question is, if there's one in San Francisco Bay and another in Maine, are there more out there?

Well, there's a bal0001 and a bal0100, which are both in San Francisco.  Doesn't appear to be a bal0101 or higher though.

SmokinTrees: As opposed to a mysterious sinking barge?

Came here to say this, also:  I'm pretty sure the mysterious sunken barge (if it has people coming and going to it) is the one with the Bond villain in it.

Just call the Port Authority or whoever's in charge of keeping track of boats in US waters.

They had a large barge with a radio antenna tower on it that they would charged up a discharge.
