Well it's okay, we're nearing Halloween so I expect lots of dress-up and similar fun.

Oh wait, they're serious?

Dear lord, that's huge.  I blame the ghosts.  And Florida.

FTFA: The tools of the trade, the two explain, are electromagnetic-field readers, voice recorders and even a gadget called a "ghost box" that supposedly allows paranormal beings to communicate via text messages on a cellphone-sized screen.

Yeah. The ghosts are now on Twitter. #DUMBASS

I can see how there would be a lot of ghosts in Florida. The large retirement community down there must have people dying every day, and I'd bet that couples moved down there together. So when one dies, it hangs around waiting for the other one to die so both can move on to the next world together.

The problem is that sometimes the ghost gets confused and is unable to find their partner, and this can lead to prolonged hauntings as the ghost doesn't want to move on until its partner shows up (which it never does).

Laugh all you want at these ghost hunters. They are doing an important job by helping lost souls move on to the next stage of afterlife. Your mockery doesn't change that one bit.

There is something strange in that neighborhood.

Some friends and I spent a few days at a bed and breakfast place in Daytona during Bike Week.
Some "ghost hunters" were there doing their thing, and asked if we minded.
Hell no, sounds like fun to us! We minded our Ps and Qs and remained as polite as possible, acted as tho we were truly interested.
Thru the night we rearranged furniture, pictures, reset clocks, even rolled "hushpuppies" down the stairs.
They never suspected us, thought the place was truly haunted.

So ghosts exist in defiance of all known science, but they can be detected and recorded with the tools, technology and methods of science.

Right.

How do I get off this farking rock filled with psychotic apes?

Hushpuppies?

I know that is a fried food and iirc a shoe as well.

But I have nothing for stair rolling purposes...

I want to know why ghosts only come out at night for these spectre sleuths?

Remember Cole in the Sixth Sense?   He saw them all the time.

If you started seeing food and shoes rolling down the stairs of an old mansion, wouldn't you suspect something was freaky?

Assuming you were a 12-year-old pussy rather than a bunch of drunk college students, I mean.

I'm nowhere near Florida and there is a paranormal investigation thing around here and it has a staggering amount of members. Worse, it's run by a complete douche. I don't know if I feel worse that they waste their lives or that they bow to a mental midget.

What's the bag limit on ghosts? Is there a hunting season, or are they fair game all year long? Do you have to shoot only the males and let the females go? What weapons are acceptable for taking them down?

Sophisticated electronic equipment?  I thought ghosts had a way of shutting that sort of thing down.

If ghosts are real and they can shut off the mics and cameras as ghost hunters claim, then what difference the cost of the equipment?

They are around you all the time, but the IR cameras work best in the dark.  That's one of the main reasons they do the in investigations between dusk and dawn.  Also, some claim that the hours leading up to and just after Midnight (aka the bewitching hour) are the hours that spirits are "most active".

A bunch of old .... acquaintances... from school are all into this. Like, one of them at least was actually getting *paid* to do some photography things for them at one point. I'm quite a weirdo, but not quite weird enough for this. I do end up interacting with them a lot though, as many of their interests overlap my own social groups... Pretty good people for the most part, so long as you're sure to steer as much of the conversation as possible toward the 'real'. One wrong word and woooo boy.

Lots of really, really religious people end up into these kinds of things as well. Not quite sure what to make of that.

/Yup, Florida. For a long time the most visible presence was in the Orlando area, but it spread to my home town (not far from Orlando) and now I end up meeting/seeing (it's pretty obvious -- cars usually covered in things saying they hunt ghosts. Yes, one is in fact a fully decked-out Ghost Busters car, which I see every morning on my commute) them all around my current town.

I love how the technology just enables these guys to continue their batshiat beliefs.

IR Cameras for example - we have them in our house for the toddler twins rooms - it's part of the baby monitor system.  If you look in the camera long enough at night you can see dust that will come very, very close to the lens and look like a giant white blob shooting by.  It freaked me out the first time I saw it and my wife too, but I knew what it was.

Nothing prepares you for a fly landing on the lens though.  That was....horrifying......

I'm pretty sure there are fixed rules for ghosts. For instance if a ghost can be visible to people, then it can also walk through walls. However, if the ghost is invisible, it must open the door.

I see no reason to assume that ghosts wouldn't be affected by light in some way.  Every other being on the planet is.  I think the larger assumption is that ghosts have to be so special that they are the one being on the planet that has no behavioral change with the presence or absence of light.

Ghost hunting is unfortunately popular enough across the country that it has its own television show, imaginatively called Ghost Hunters, now in its eighth season.

It's a national madness.
