"The lady's not for turning!"

2013-10-27 11:16:05 PM
First of all, there already is a lady-Expendable movie in progress, it's got Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff attached.

Secondly, "he Expendables was pretty dumb to begin with. Instead of the women getting a second-rate ripoff, why not get the Expendables bros do some lady stuff? I'd pay to see Stallone, Statham, Lundgren, Norris and the gang in The Hours."

Every sentiment in those sentences is so wrong I don't even know where to begin.

I'd rather watch Al Sharpton's colonoscopy during sex than this movie as proposed.

When was Meryl Streep an action star?

It's been done.  It was called, "Charlie's Angels".

Wow, this sounds terrible. Just terrible.

I was never tempted to watch The Expendables.  Having women do the same stuff?  Perhaps easier on the eyes, but an even worse story idea.

Just saw Ex 2 last night on Netflix and had nightmares of all the one liners they spit out. Chuck Norris doing a Chuck Norris joke *cringe*. Hubby swears we saw 1 in the theaters, I must have blocked it out.
This version would be Charlie's Angels get old and complain about it. As long as she's not dancing in her underware, hubby won't put it in the queue.

Lol...I actually meant to just quote the bit about Sackhoff and Carano, but whatever.

I'll wait for the 2035 remake with Chandler Riggs, Chloe Moretz, Kiernan Shipka, Hailee Steinfeld,, Ariel Winter, Jack Gleeson, and Maisee Williams.

No, I'd rather watch Al Sharpton's appendectomy with a broken Budweiser bottle.

FTA:writing strong female characters isn't just writing male characters and then drawing boobs on them at the last second

No, you also have to take away reason and accountability

Adaptation. There was a car chase scene.

Wait, so they want to make a female version of a movie with an audience designed for guys with no guns and no action?  That just alienates both audiences.

This is why most people think Hollywood is farking stupid.

Well, at least it'll prove that audiences don't want strong female characters or something.

Had potential, now looks about as crappy as a SyFy made for tv movie.

Geena Davis ("Long Kiss Goodnight")  It was really the first female-driven action movie that made me believe a woman could pull it off.  I was even able to overlook Sam Jackson as "angry black man."

I didn't see that movie so I didn't realize they didn't allow guns.  That's farking stupid.  "We're going to take on the most evil people on the entire planet armed with nothing but our boobs."  That would only work if the evil guys were all farkers.

I genuinely love that movie. It's such a gas. The ice-skating scene is my favorite, probably because it's the pinnacle of the movie's need for suspension of disbelief (lace-up time, physics of firing a hand-cannon while on skates, etc.).

I think the only reason it bombed is because it followed the truly awful "Cutthroat Island," which was the same lead actress and the same director (husband and wife at the time), so nobody thought it could be any good.

Had "Long Kiss" come out before "Cutthroat," it might have been a hit.

/Also one of the few times Craig Bierko's obnoxiousness has ever been put to good use instead of just being annoying

There's one with Gina Carano and a few other chicks that can pull off the actiony thing.

Meryl Steep... that's just a retarded idea. I hope she got that idea sent to her and just laughed for 45 minutes at the mere thought.

Recast Helen Mirren and even make her the same character as in the Red movies (haven't had a chance to see 2. If she got killed in it then make it a prequel) and make it ultraviolent and it might fly.

First read I though it said Incredibelle's and was going to be a Pixar sequel and had hope for some awesome. I'd miss Mr Incredible, Dash, and Frozone but with a good script reason for it being all girl I could've gone with that.

It's cute that we're getting back into the theme action movies like back in the '70s.

I don't know that inappropriately-cast-female-actor is really a good action theme, but since someone did it with old people (Red) as the theme, I wouldn't say out-of-hand that it will necessarily be bad.  I am a little worried that they'll run out of themes fast since they can't go full racist like in the '70s, though.

I was promised 90 minutes of Gina Carano being hot and kicking ass, and was not disappointed.

/ I also require Linda Hamilton for any "female Expendables" concept.
