Me too, except I like mine cheap and for sale at most gas stations.

I was liking bitter(ish) alcoholic beverages before it was cool.

/loves me a good old fashioned

It makes sense.  Cloyingly sweet is initially appealing, but the lack of depth gets boring after a while.  As the cocktail culture matures people are starting to look for something different, and drinks involving bitters provide that.

Likes it black, bitter and preferably fair trade.

Yes, but a good one is hard to find. Everyone wants to make it their own and put a unique twist on it, load it up with fruit or soda. Maybe there's a reason it's called an old fashioned.

I like bitter things because I'm a bitter person.

This.

I've been drinking Campari and soda for several years as I find it sweet not bitter. The low alcohol content also keeps the evening pleasant while my compatriots fall into unwieldy speech patterns and syncopated gaits.

Bitter tastes include coffee, beer, unsweetened cocoa and citrus peel

And poisons.

The negroni is my cocktail of choice, and I desperately love amaro, so I approve of this article.

Cause, you know, you were all waiting to make sure I did.

Devil's bile, coughed up fresh from his dark belly and served cold in a brass bowl with gin and bitters.

An old fashioned is not bitter unless you massively overdo the orange peel and omit the bourbon.  Manhattans aren't bitter either.

Let's get these out of the way:

- aged 12 years
- first thing in the morning
- sealed in an oaken cask
- imported from Russia
- etc.

I like my whiskey like I like my women, 16 years old and mixed up with coke.

Drinks quickly become too sweet for my taste. If you like sweet drinks, that's fine, but I frequently get the impression I'm drinking liquid sugar.

FTFA: "Why are people turning their backs on sweet cocktails in favour of a bitter taste?"

The desire to seem & feel hip and sophisticated. I.e. advertising and peer pressure, like with any other fad. If the In Crowd were gulping live goldfish you'd be doing that.

I usually drink inexpensive 6-8 year old bourbon because I'm a poor drunkard in Kentucky, but when I want to use a distilled spirit to seem & feel hip and sophisticated I'll get myself an Islay scotch. (McClelland's is young but nifty.) Mixers and other adulterants are for making Old Crow tolerable: only despicable dilettantes make Old Fashioneds with Pappy van Winkle.

As for how I like my women, it's been so long that I've mostly forgotten. Any gorgeous, bored and charitable Farkettes in the 859 area code are welcome to help me refresh my memory; EIP, TIA!

Ok, I agree with you strongly in this thread.

Sweet drinks make me barf.

Pimm's and lemonade (San Pellegrino limonata not country time) is about as sweet as I like.

Tanqueray and tonic is my go to cocktail. Bitter and piney. Yum!

/I'm really more of a beer drinker
//Weihenstephan orginal please.

It's so hilarious to me when, en masse, people "discover" things that have already been popular among others for a long time.
I'd like to say that I'm ahead of the trend, but that would imply that I give a sh*t about the trend.

I like all sorts of cocktails, even some of the sweeter ones, but the sour and lightly bitter taste of classic cocktails like the Sidecar or Old Fashioned have been my cup of tea ever since I started drinking.  The Sazerac is a favorite of mine, too.  There are also a few related drinks (Bronx, Eddy, or Orange Blossom) with a very good balance of sour, bitter, and sweet that I enjoy.  They're all made of various combinations of gin-orange juice-vermouth.  They all have a high gin-to-vermouth ratio, but the bitterness is balanced nicely by the sour-sweet of the orange juice (it also mellows out the gin's harsh alcoholic bite) and the pine-like taste of the gin adds a nice refreshing finish.  Try it, you might be surprised; even my friend who hates vermouth was surprised to find that she liked them.

I like Manhattans once in a while, but nobody tries to steal my drink.

Weihenstephaner is by far my favorite brewery.  The weizenbock (Vitus) that I had on draft at a local German restaurant is the most delicious pint (okay, two pints) of beer that I've ever had.

I loves me my Pimm's cup.

Tanqueray and tonic is my go to cocktail. Bitter and piney. Yum!

Mine, too.  When I lived in Washington State, when I was feeling extravagant, I used to make it with Rogue micro-distillery Spruce Gin.  Damn, but that was yummy.

Alcohol is processed by your digestive system the same as sugars! That way you think "fark it I'll take any of them!"
