I had no idea that I shared my birthday with Simon LeBon, nor that I was a year older than he.... the young
whippersnapper.

Simon Le Bon is the reason I could wear a pale yellow linen suit when I was 19.  Happy Birthday, Sir!

As a single young man in the early 80's it was in your best interest to have Rio in your album/ cassette collection.  99% of women my age at the time freaking loved those guys.  In fact I had an extensive collection of albums I only listened to when on a date, not that I didn't like Rio.

A fierce one-eyed man named Baron LaBonne
A meaner pirate had never been known
And he sailed on the Dark Lady
A ship strong and sound with a perilous crew
And high on the mast the skull and bones flew
Fleet and swift was the Dark Lady
And ever night the Baron would drink a toast
He'd say, "Here's to my lovely lady host!
My one true love..."
"Hear, hear!" the crew replied
And the Dark Lady sighed.

CSB- Simon came to our after reception party at our wedding. They were playing in town and staying at the resort where we held our ceremony. He kept asking "Where's the chemist?" One of our friends challenged him to a dance off. My brand , new wife fed him a strawberry because, hey, when are you gonna get the chance to do that again. And, he went home that night with one of the bridesmaids. Memorable wedding, that.

Happened to be at a Marriott in Charleston, WV in the early '80s when the band came into the hotel bar after a show there. I've never seen young women go so insane in my life.

Here's Mr. Lebon and crew's version of Lou Reed's "a perfect day". Mr. Reed has said it was his most favorite cover version.

Who hummed out the first lines to the song then counted the number of "do's" in subby's headline to see if they matched?

I did...

jgi: My favorite Duran Duran cover.

There's actually a really good tribute album out there full of great Duran Duran covers buy all kinds of bands including the Deftones, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Jimmy Eat World, the Mr T Experience, and, no kidding, Wesley Willis.

/so this is cool: voice typing on my Nexus 7 actually knew the names of all those bands, capitalizing and spelling them correctly

Duran Duran was my first favourite band. I was around 5 years old when their Arena album came out. I had seen the video for Wild Boys and I thought it was the most badass thing that ever happened. I convinced my mom to buy the record when I saw it in the department store and listened to it over and over, buying every cassette of theirs and stopped listening to them in junior high. Gave them all away in highschool to some punk girl who was obsessed with them after I lost interest during my journeys down the Ween and Mr. Bungle tunnels. I may still have that record somewhere though.

They were one of the first bands I saw where the fellas would wear lipstick [not counting KISS] and I was all:
