In other news, pickin's are slim for movie goers every October.

A friend of mine reported being absolutely surprised to see a pretty sizeable over-60 crowd at the showing he went to.

Saw the Counselor last night.  It was...not bad.

My biggest complaint about the movie is that it is one that is deeply in love with the sound of its' own voice.  So much so, in fact, that if you listen closely enough at some points, you can hear Cormac McCarthy furiously masturbating in a corner.  The popular complaint is that Hollywood movies are nothing but gunfights and explosions; well, this movie could have used some of that to break up the monotony of the first half.  That said, when it picks up, it picks up pretty well and stays there for the most part.

It's a rare movie, too, where the performances from all involved are solid.  Yes, even Cameron Diaz.  I read all the stuff about her before I saw it, and so I ended up focusing on her the most.  To be frank, I liked her character.  It was nothing groundbreaking, sure, but it wasn't the hyperbolic clusterfark people had been saying it was.  She needs to play characters of that type more often.  Oh, and Diaz and Penelope Cruz are HOT in that movie.

Gravity 3D is worth seeing it in 3D. Glad I didn't skip it and just see the regular film. And now I can stop having fantasies of Sandra Bullock floating around in her skivvies.

Bad Grandpa was decent enough. Aimed low and succeeded at a being a OK popcorn movie and not much more.

Clutch2013: that is deeply in love with the sound of its' own voice.

You seem to be deeply in love with putting apostrophes where they absolutely do not belong, ever.

After seeing the commercial for 'Bad Grandpa', it's interesting to note that 'Ow My Balls' has finally become reality in America. Congrats.

Bad Grandpa was funnier than expected for a Jackass-themed flick.

The less said about The Counselor, the better. Vanilla Sky is a masterpiece by comparison.

I can't recommend 12 Years A Slave enough. Fantastic flick.

The Counselor was interesting, but I was completely lost for a majority of the movie. I didn't catch the deal gone wrong, I didn't know who some of the characters that popped up were, It was like a highlight reel from a season's worth of show. Was that McCarthy's intention? Just fragments of greed and violence? Could be cool, but was left with a feeling of disconnection with the characters.

Good for Knoxville, he's finally realized no one wants to see him try to act, they just want to watch him hurt himself.

When your entire comment is nothing but a derivation of a seven year old comedy movie which you're taking as prophecy, you're not exactly elevating the entire consensus of human kind there farkwit.

Haven't seen any of the jackass movies, not interested in them. But I don't strut around about how ones entertainment choices draw down the prophecies of that wise sage Mike Judge.

Like I said, McCarthy's screenplay is way too full of itself.

With that in mind, Pitt and Diaz seem to recognize this and have the most fun with it (Bardem does, too, to a lesser extent).

Yeah, Jackass is closer to Ow My Balls. This at least looks like he's playing a character and might even have a plot. Then again Tosh.0 is the bottom of the barrel. It's Ow My Balls with more vomiting.

Most (if not all) of the Jackass (not the normal 'we hurt ourselves' Jackass, but the skits involving other non-core cast members) stuff is done on consignment.  It's 'hidden camera' comedy, where they put in props, and bring in actors to play people. The actors aren't 'in' on it, but they're people hired to act. Just not in the role they were anticipating. They film a lot of skits, not all of them make it, it's pretty cheap and easy to gonzo it unless it's a huge set piece.

Personally, I can't stand Jackass.  Never have been able to. Was made to watch some portion in high school at the peak of their run, and it just meh'ed me to death.  But it's not any more or less drivel than Borat or the 40 movies he's done since then, or better or worse than 'epic movie' or 'scary movie' or 'superhero movie' or any of the 'X movie' craptastic parodies. The only real difference is this one slaps a veneer or 'reallistic life like simulation' across the front and asks the audience to pretend that it was all, really, candid camera filming.  Otherwise it's just stuntmen doing pratfalls 2.0; it's Charlie Chaplin with modern technology and a biatchin mullet.

But I wasn't the one making sweeping condemnations of society viewed through the lens of a mediocre comedy by Mike Judge. When you make such comentary, the onus is on the comentor to elevate the discussion, or the entirety of humanity, otherwise he's more banal than the people who are watching this movie, because while they are doing it and not caring, HE is cognizant of what it means, and his entire reaction is to get on the internet and tell the fark thread just HOW GOD DAMNED SMART HE IS and how he's better than all of this mediocre programming.

I disagree.  Daniel Tosh is a solid comic.  It's more about watching Tosh's humor than the videos themselves.  Also, the games he plays on his co-workers is always funny.  Here lately, Tosh.0 is a lot more funny than The Soup.

And he doesn't do too many vomit shiat anymore.  I usually FF over that.

I actually liked Jackass. Sure, some of it was stupid, boring or gross but they're really beating a dead horse now.  The whole Knoxville old man bit was funny at first, it's not anymore.

Besides, the trailer has been out for months and I get the impression they put all the good stuff in the trailer anyway, so what's the point in watching it?

What was your point? Something had to knock Gravity out of number one. It's been out for weeks. The vast majority of people who are going to see it in the theater already did.

No one's so big a fan of Cormac McCarthy as the man himself is.  He's been a preening crank for years, turning out some good but essentially nihilistic work set in Appalachia early in his career, marked with brilliant writing mixed with self-parody.  Then he had his El Paso-era work in general, the All The Pretty Horses and that trilogy, which is basically unreadable.  Blood Meridian is fantastic but ultimately you wonder what the hell he's on about.  Then there's The Road, which in my mind is good but is nothing that hasn't been done before, and is just his old man mewling pessimism vomited grey-ly on the page.  No Country For Old Men, I haven't read, but it made for a fantastic Coen Brothers movie.

With The Counselor I feel like he really believes his own hype.  He thinks he's absolutely terrific, and whatever he shiats out smells great.  This is his late in life victory lap, and now he's jogging through Hollywood, hanging with new, expensive homies.  That's great, I guess, but let's make sure we know he was never that great to begin with.

He might be a good storyteller, but sweet Jesus he needs some damned punctuation.  I tried reading Blood Meridian, but gave up when I realized I was having to spend more time figure out who was saying what than paying attention to what they were talking about.
