The "religious right" is such a complete and total grift, and the rubes keep falling for it because they are so happy to hear someone telling them their religious beliefs aren't bigoted, ignorant, and a distortion of the true meaning of the teachings of Jesus Christ.  Which they are.

Just make it sound as if seeing the movie (and buying tickets) is a Christian duty and the faithful will flock to make you happy.

That's been his approach in politics and so it seems viable to him.

It's the Republican mantra, submitter, and it's something of a Mad Lib.

"The only moral [X] is my [X]"

where X can be anything from a film to a haunted house to an abortion.

When this flops, I wonder where he will place the blame.  Poor writing?  Poor acting?  Poor directing?  Hollywood liberals?

hmmmmmmm...I wonder

Usually the religious nut job ranting about immorality also happens to be one of the most corrupt assholes in the room.

I guess it's safe to assume that any failures will always be someone elses fault. That sort of par for the course with evangelicals.

Let me guess - A good White Christian family forces people of all faiths to celebrate Christmas or risk imprisonment or death.

You're implying that these people don't buy their own message.

I don't think there's anything insincere about their belief that "positive" cultural messages can create shifts in society. The problem as I see it is that rather than producing films about, say, MLK's Letter from a Birmingham Jail, they think Christianity is saccharine stories about magical angels.

I'd just like to point out that the Prince of Darkness must have a hell of a lot of friends on the local zoning board, because there are a LOT of "Devil's Playground"s in this world.

Probably! But you gotta say, at least he's doing something about the stuff that bugs him instead of just complaining about it. I mean, that in itself is easy for rich people who don't need to make ends meet, and can hire nannies for their kids instead of parenting. But at least he is working at the company too, instead of merely paying middle class people to be the change he takes credit for.

It is amazing how eager and easily they do the opposite of what their religion tells them.

Feed the poor, instead its fark the freeloaders.

Beware false prophets, instead they trip over themselves to be the first to follow anyone who tells them what they want.

Pray quietly to god in your own closet, instead they are screaming into megaphones 24/7 that they need their beliefs validated every second.

Parables about giving your goods to others and how the poor and humble are blessed, instead its gimmie gimmie gimmie!

They are the opposite of Jesus' messages.

It's actually pretty easy to make money off of crappy low budget movies that appeal to people who go to megachurches.

The current narrative (and really has been since the Cold War) is that the good White Christian family must persevere against cultural pressure and tyrannical nanny-state liberals to keep the true meaning of Xmas... that being magical sky spirits of unslakable wrath.

santorum
1. That frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.

1. santorum
word of the day:
The sometimes frothy, usually slimy, amalgam of lubricant, stray fecal matter, and ejaculate that leaks out of the receiving partner's anus after a session of anal intercourse. Named, by popular demand and usage, after legislator Rick Santorum because of his homophobic political statements.

Deep in the heart of the English countryside lies the enchanting village of Gladbury. Legend has it every 25 years an angel visits the village candlemaker and touches a single candle. Whoever lights this candle receives a miracle on Christmas Eve.

Okay, that is some Silent Hill or Children of the Corn shiat. That isn't a charming tale, that's a creepy story about a cult in a village that worships purifying fire.

/Also, Gladbury? Really? Glad-bury?

We talked about this in the previous thread, but whenever you try to add a Christian theme to a movie, you decrease the writing quality and triple the pointless melodrama exponentially. It usually takes an enormous effort for any sort of spiritual movie to be taken seriously, especially a Christmas movie. It's why I put Hallmark Channel on parental lock when I'm home for the holidays. There's only so many holiday stories you can do about single moms dating architects with dark secrets and parents mourning for their sons who died in war fighting the war on Christmas against paper thin Scrooge straw men.

I do so hope this Santorum learns from this and digs down into the direct to video line, where schlock like this is better suited.
