So did I. At one point they had the opportunity to buy a brewery down the road and refused because of quality control reasons.

It is for the most part, but they bought an old Schlitz brewery a few years back and manufacture for Southern distribution down there.

Or.. it WAS.

The original, and thus oldest continuous brewery in America, is in PA. They've been growing, albeit slowly. Quality goes down as number of units goes up if you grow too fast.

There are 2 or 3 Yuengling Brewery's. I dont know if they are done expanding the PA plant. I think I read that the father died. And the kids took it over and want to expand farther west. So they where enlarging the PA plant. This is just a sad sad day. The only way I can get one is to smuggle a 24 pack in my checked luggage. But that was before bag fees. .
I spoke to a guy at Liquorama in Upland Ca once about getting Yuengling. Said he tried but he just cant get it Said he was asked about once a day if they have it.

2013-10-26 11:38:23 PM
I'm sure Yuengling brews their own water too.

Jewish lightning?

The company has been featured in a Planet Money article about scions, and since the boss only had daughters it raises a question about heritability. At least in that business. Budweiser got sold to Inbev because the scion was a farking idiot.

There's just two.  Tampa and PA.
They were gonna buy the old Zima brewery in Memphis TN but it got hit by a tornado and they didn't want to fix it up.

Sounds like the way it used to be with Coors, but backwards.

Y'all can keep the Coors, we'll keep the Yuengling.

People go on about it because  for the price, its the best there is. Stuff is cheaper than Budweiser, but actually palatable. I'm in CA now, so no shortage of good beers to choose from, but nothing can compete with Yuengling in both cost and taste simultaneously.

Here in Atlanta at the price range I can choose  between Yuengling and Coors Banquet (which is night and day compared to coors water/light)

They're both as cheap or less than the top names and very hard to beat at around 10 for 12

Maybe I'll get to try one about the same time you east coasters get to have an In 'N' Out Burger.

/I honestly thought Yuengling was a Chinese beer. I mean, it looks like something you'd name a panda.

The best drink my local (small) distributor gets is (imo) Boddingtons (imported from the limeys).

After that a string of seasonal stuff, much on the hoppy side, including S.A. Noble Pils (not a huge Sam fan but I love that particular brew).

Hell, I love a LOT of beers, standard beer, strong beer and wacky beer. Abby beers, mibrobrews, I'll probably enjoy the stuff you made in your garage in a bucket if you followed the rules on the kit.

Stuff with apricots or blueberry tones? You betcha.
Jalapeno beer? Yes please.

Beer beer beer.

But when  I don't want to pay $40 or more, I get Yuengling. It's my stand-by old-trusty. Like a dog you've had since a pup, or a truck handed down from your grandfather it's become a part of my life. This is not prose or exaggeration.

And at the price ($18~ish)  I really haven't found anything like it anywhere.

There are plenty of beers in the $20+ and $30+ dollar range (and up) that just don't even come close. And sometimes, when you just really need a cold one, I'm not sure any of the above or anything else will pass as a substitute.

Cheers!

Terrapin is better than most of Yuengling's offerings (black and tan is an exception).
