(CNN)   One more time: it is legal to check a gun when flying out of New York, but it is not legal to have a gun in New York in the first place. Especially four guns. And a high-capacity magazine. And one of the guns is disguised as Barney The Dinosaur   (cnn.com) divider line 217

Aww he ruined that AK. Judging by the front sight, it's Chinese, so he could've sold it for $1200-1800 and paid for some night classes to learn how to not be a dumbsh*t.

Even if you do everything right, the farking corrupt city of New York will find some excuse to arrest you and confiscate your firearms.

While I agree; common sense would tell you that doing anything to serial numbers is a no-no, as well as TRYING TO FLY WITH A LOADED WEAPON.

Yet another thread where some dumbass southern tourist forgets to check the local gun laws when entering new york city.

And the NRA facing gun rights squad will point to how unfair NYC gun laws are, because clearly they are against states rights.

\It would be nice if a sign would be hung in the airport luggage pickup in NYC that guns are pretty much not allowed in NYC and give dumbass tourists an opportunity to ship them back to their home state as a second chance.

As has been noted in the story's comments, "loaded" doesn't always mean what you think it means.  Some jurisdictions call a gun "loaded" if there are rounds in the magazine, even if the magazine and gun are not stored in the same container.  It wouldn't surprise me a bit if New York's version of "loaded" meant he had a box of bullets for one of the guns.

If they're illegal to have in new york, and he got caught flying out with them. Then how did they get INTO new york in the first place?

// did he fly in and check them and the folks just went "meh?"
// did he drive in, and then decide to fly out?
// If so, what happened to the vehicle? Was it a rental, lol?
// did he fly in empty handed and then acquire the guns while in new york?

// news reporting just doesn't even bother anymore :(

They probably weren't illegal in his state of origin.  There wouldn't be any reason to examine the cases when he arrived in NY because they'd already been cleared.

This. Previous, better sourced stories on this topic have pointed out that the airlines don't warn you if you check firearms onto a flight to a city where those firearms are illegal to possess. Handguns are illegal to possess in NYC, unless you have a permit. But Delta won't tell your dumb country ass that. As for the ones spray painted in weird colors, this is just proof that that idiot isn't smart/responsible enough to own an Airsoft gun.

Here in TN the only thing that your can't do is TECHNICALLY travel with a loaded weapon.

By loaded i mean there's a loaded magazine connected to the weapon. As long as the two are clearly separate, as in the magazine is not in the glove compartment with your pistol (unless you have a conceal carry permit, and even then, while in the car, its kind of a court discretion toss up), its cool.

The rifle thing though... If he was following TN law. Not okay. Magazine must be separate from the firearm for transport. I have friends that go blow hundreds of rounds at the range and they always make sure to keep the ammo boxes in the trunk and the rifle, unloaded, without magazine, in the rear seat.

We actually do have fairly strict long gun laws (as far as Southern states go). Including covering up the S/N. Also a big no/no here as well.

I'd love to claim this guy was just a crazy Southern gun bunny that should prove to America that we need stronger gun laws, but this idiot was already violating some fairly lax gun laws to begin with.

This is exactly the sort of careless, casual attitude towards firearms that gives us "accidental" discharges and toddler assassins and is nurtured by the crybaby GUN NUTS whining over the slightest inconvenience to their hobby.

US problem for US persons, nobody care but the 3 Fark members, who always ague and bully others to think it a right to carry a gun , and to some point cool, yes because you founding fathers had that in the bag.. your augments are the same as any radical religion use,  having a mostly uninformed indoctrinated person guess what somebody's view on the world was 300 years ago..  good faking luck

Rest of the world, happy that dumb persons allow even less smart persons to buy guns with no central Database or approval system, grammar school maths say number of dumb gun owners over time will be decline..

Oh, Yes only Gun owners think that guns keep them save, I have a Tiger rock, it keep me safe from attacks

You'll forgive me if I believe I have a better understanding of what the founding fathers of the US meant than someone who can barely write the language and lives in Vietnam. It is my right to carry a gun because the Constitution gives me the right to bear arms and I hold a license to carry a concealed weapon (not just a firearm) in the majority of this country's states.

I do not believe that a gun keeps me safe but I do believe that a governmental authority saying I can't have a firearm is illegal and that it would make me less safe.

Not having a retard like that carry legally again was certainly worth it to me, and to society. Our rather minimal gun laws, to me, have always constituted an IQ test - if I flunk them, i am too dumb to be toting a gun around. A lot of the Farkers who are bemoaning the fact that this retard got busted with his little pop-guns would be showing the dumbass no sympathy whatsoever if he had run afoul of some other law a five year old would know better than to get caught breaking.

Hmmm.

Not much in this thread about the serial numbers.

Legitimate gun owners don't remove the serial numbers, only criminals do that, so the gun is untraceable. Its very hard to be sympathetic with an idiot who checks an illegal weapon that could get you arrested anywhere, not just New York.
