Came out of BYU and he's getting a million dollars a year for nothing.  Bet he's bootstrappy

Why does this story keep coming up every year despite the fact that Young has debunked it years ago? He has already said that sometime in the 80's, after he was done playing for them, he cashed out his annuity for a lump sum that was a fraction of what it was worth. So somebody is probably getting paid a million a year, but it is not him.

Here is the citation, he says he took $1 million instead of the annuity.

Still don't understand how this keeps coming up every year when Young himself has said it was false.

It's not just them. There are a lot of sites, including Fox and USA Today, that are reporting this. It seems CBS is the only ones that actually bothered to ask him about it and get it right.

Getting paid a quarter billion dollars (so far) to own a team that doesn't exist, except on paper? Hell yeah that's an amazing deal.

Only thing they hate more than rich ballplayers is people who take personal responsibility for their own life choices.  Stands to reason they'd hang around and derp about somebody getting paid per a signed contract.

Did you miss the part where the billionaire declared bankruptcy to get out of the contracts and Young took a much smaller settlement.

Of course he didn't. He just didn't mention it because it didn't fit in to the "LIBRUL BASH!" narrative.

"We never funded the annuity. The owner was so crazy, it had to stay in his name for 45 years," Young said. "So they gave me the option to take the money, which I think was $1 million bucks or $900,000 to fund the annuity -- either take that money or fund the annuity -- I just took the money. The whole idea of the annuity is false advertising."

Anyways, I want a Houston Gamblers shirt.

The USFL actually had a chance if it didn't have certain powerful owners like Donald Trump lead them into disastrous fiscal and organizational changes. The fall schedule switch was the worse and not done for football reasons. Donald Trump wanted to force a merger with the NFL and destroyed the league in doing so.

Are we surprised, considering how ESPN and CBS and NBC fell over themselves to tell Manti Te'o's heartwarming story about his girlfriend, and didn't do one goddamn iota of actual journalism.  Yet nobody held them accountable in that whole debacle.

He won't even take responsibility for it. In the 30 For 30 someone did about it, Trump called the league a disasterous business model to begin with and it was just "small potatoes", hence the name if the documentary.

Best part... forever.

"Their piece amounted to a sliver of the modest amount that CBS was paying the N.B.A. in those days. But if the share was small then, one particular term of the arrangement was attractive: the owners, Ozzie and Daniel Silna, would be paid the money every year in perpetuity, or as long as the N.B.A. existed."

That's why I said "so far"... Good Lord, if they're still alive 20 years from now, they'll probably cross the half-billion line.
