I went to a Halloween party several years ago in a similar "white trash" costume. Does this mean that a) I'll get a kick out of these replies or b) I'm a bad person and should feel bad or c) Profit?

The principal of the school said he spoke to the mother, but notes that it's hard to get parents to abide by the same rules students

It's also hard to get Daily Mail editors to abide by the same grammar rules students.

Popular Mardi Gras costume in New Orleans since the 80's. No one gets offended.

East siiiiiiide!

Seriously, if you've lived in the Detroit area you know East Side (or rather Macomb county) as well as Downriver are full of Kid Rock-lovin' WT.

The irony is Kid Rock grew up in neither area and was the son of a very wealthy auto dealer.  He plays the part of Dirtball to extract the disability-payments from his fanbase.

Likely, no one will care. I sure don't!

White people dressing up as white trash is offensive? Isn't that the same as black people making fun of other blacks?

It seems to me that people are waking up in the morning and starting their day with the intention of finding something to be offended by.

As someone just two generations removed from poor white trash I must say I am deeply offended.

Nah, I don't give a shiat.

2013-10-26 09:13:36 AM
Forget offensive, those costumes are just lame. How much fun could the kid be having in a trash bag with words on it?

I think the Daily Fail's motto is: "All The News That Gets Idiots All Butthurt".

Seriously, most of the stories in that rag are about how you should be horrified by some damn thing or another.

I like this at the bottom of the story:
Last week, the University of Colorado at Boulder told students to not wear Halloween costumes that it deemed offensive, or to be a 'crude stereotype.' On the list are cowboys, Indians, anything with a sombrero, anything 'ghetto' and anything 'white trash.'
'Making the choice to dress up as someone from another culture, either with the intention of being humorous or without the intention of being disrespectful, can lead to inaccurate and hurtful portrayals of other people's cultures,' Dean of Students Christina Gonzeles wrote in a letter to students.
Dressing as a cowboy is now offensive. Weren't cowboys part of this countries history?

2013-10-26 09:22:59 AM
A black man working at the school my kids once attended, dressed in all white without make-up.  He said he went as a 'white man'.  I am only surprised by this making the news.  No one batted an eyelash at his costume, who really cares about this?

2013-10-26 09:23:58 AM
Is black face still okay?

2013-10-26 09:26:11 AM
I thought white trash was a heritage you inherited and built upon, not merely some pasty-ass white makeup. Please know that white trash has it's own social pecking order. You ain't seen pure, gutter level white trash until you visit Hinesville Georgia, where even the 85 year old grannies have tats all over & no teeth. Now THAT'S white trash.

'You can't have weapons; you can't have blood; you can't have gory stuff, but racial slurs? Go right ahead!'

a) then what's the point?
b) there is no such thing as an even remotely hurtful racial slur for white people
c) you must be a riot at sh*tty kids' parties run by lunatics

It is one of mrs varmitydog's great joys to give away Halloween candy, but we live in the country so we go to her brother's apartment where there are hordes of kids and she gives it out there, while I sit in the living room, watch TV and drink beer. A few people always show up at the door without costumes, mostly teenagers. This annoys my wife greatly so I get to give the candy to them. That's my standard line to them: "Great white trash costume there buddy! You really got that white trash look down".

I really like it when it's white kids trying to dress black, or black kids. I get to go through every wigger and welfare deadbeat joke I know.

The answer is none. None more fun.

Absolutely. I worked for Sammy Davis Jr, and he was a jew.

It's Roseville, or as some call it "Roachville". A nice little lower class suburb to the north of Detroit. If you love Harley's, the UAW, Government assistance and hate dark skinned folk it's a great spot for you.

Heard about that last week. I hope every kid at that school wears the most offensive costume they can fine. What a bag of stupid.

When I was elementary school, our local roller rink had a Halloween costume night. One girl's mom dressed her as a big ol' bag of garbage.

I laughed my ass off, then felt terrible. This girl really wasn't bright enough to understand what was so wrong about her costume.

Still one of the funniest/worst things I've ever seen.

I didn't know that Detroit had white trash. I thought that was something that only southern state trailer parks could lay claim to.

During WW2 all the hillbillies moved up to Detroit for jerbs. Then the war ended and they stayed living off welfare or disability

Slaves were also part of this "countries" [sic] history, so perhaps that's not the best line of reasoning, eh?

(Let's not forget that their pensions and healthcare are what bankrupted the U.S. auto industry)

At a previous job, while many coworkers would get in costume for the Halloween party, I did not. Someone (me) had to finish the work. I would get asked "Why don't you get into the spirit"?

I would answer- "But I am in costume. Didn't you hear about the borderline homicidal maniac who needs just one more thing to go wrong"? And then I would wait for them to figure out what I said.

"And you just pushed me over the border"..

If they can't take a joke.....

They're called juggalos in Detroit.

One would think they have a problem with Juggalos in Michigan.

And sombreros are a big part of Mexican culture also.  Gotta lighten up about this.
