Blade Runner is going to happen eventually. We'll be able to clone and genetically engineer anything we want. Eugenics to Crete "perfect babies" or royal or corp gods, pets -- you name it. The genie's already out of the bottle, baby stems as it is.

If you think we have a problem of not being able to control nature now, I.e. Invasive species, just wait until we start making deadly things we can't contain.

Did you poor beloved pet die unexpectedly after a long and painful struggle with cancer? Why not clone it and have the next animal go through the same experience!

Pretty sure you haven't seen Blade Runner, pal. Give it a rent sometime. It's a great film.

Wut?

It wasn't just about replicants. It was that genetic engineering was so common it ran out of back alley shops for anyone willing to pay. That's where we're headed.

I dunno about most of those. Especially once you know the voice actors and then it's like "Philip Jr. isn't dead, he's living in a pineapple under the sea.

There are plenty of good dogs that need homes. No point in cloning them.

FTFA: "Just as fraternal twins are different people, so, too, will cloned animals develop different personalities. We cannot resurrect animals, but we can give living animals in desperate need a chance at a happy life."

So they are comparing clones to fraternal twins?

I plan on selling them a cheap dog that looks close to their old dead dog and tell them it's a clone.  Then get an attorney who can buy off juries and explain to them that the DNA mutated a bit since the cloning process.

Still, what you initially described was arguably closer to Gattaca than Blade Runner.
