1: MM is still a celebrity? Also, he looks like an old woman in that pic.

2: Why is her tongue hanging out of her mouth?

3: Uh ...

Paul Reubens, Dennis Rodman, Andy Dick, Howard Stern, Charlie Sheen, Dina Lohan, Woody Allen, Chris Angel, Steve farking Buscemi?........ I'm not sure the people who participated know what the word "creepy" means.

Mama June and Miley Cyrus are trashy, but certainly not creepy.

Actually, on second thought Woody Allen is definitely creepy. Take him out of my post.

I remember when Manson actually mattered.  Now he just looks like a relic of a bygone era.  In some ways, he reminds me of movies whose special effects were cutting edge in the 80/90s but now look terrible.

It's creepy that she willingly and I assume at least somewhat eagerly intercoursed with Marilyn Manson.

It almost seems a bourgeois thing now. His relevance ended the moment we turned away from the family values/culture wars to the  war wars.

Incidentally, I've seen an interview with Marilyn Manson by Bill O'Reilly and Marilyn Manson came off as a really thoughtful, articulate dude.

Granted, it could be the fact that he was standing next to Bill O'Reilly that made him look that way.

He tries entirely too hard to be creepy. Doesn't make him creepy. Just makes him a poser. But he did nail Rose McGowan so WTF do I have to say.

You do understand that he doesn't wear the makeup and the contacts 24/7/365 right? He's a rock star with money and fame (or was anyway I don't know how he's doing these days) and good looking model/actress types have been known to hook up with famous rock stars from time to time.

he is incredibly intelligent.  it is how he managed to turn dressing up like a lunatic in crazy makeup while making fairly average simplistic hard rock\heavy metal into millions, while getting to bang some of the hottest women that have ever walked the planet.

You can say lots of things about Brian Warner.  You can not say that he is stupid.

This a lead-in to tomorrow night's Talking Dead?

2013-10-26 12:06:38 PM
CSB time.

It was in the mid to late 1990s and I was working for an ISP called Verio in New Orleans and the secretary passed me a call saying a guy wants to buy a T-1, an I am all jazzed because that meant a $1500 buck commission for me.

Guy gets on the phone and tells me he already has 1 and needs another one, I ask for his last name and he says "Reznor" and I said "and lemme guess first name Trent" and he says "last time I checked".

So we shot the shiat and it turned out I knew one of his personal assistants, a little brother of a friend of mine, and he invites me out to his place.

I oversee the installation and me Trent, Lenny Kravitz, and Marilyn Manson head out to the Saturn Bar to get some drinks.

Trent and Lenny were regular dudes being low key.

Manson smelled like a sack of rancid, decaying, assholes, had more grease in his hair than a fryer at Popeyes and kept hitting on anything that even vaguely had a penis.  He was super uber creepy.

I don't poo in other people's homes and would expect my guests to show the same courtesy.

He copied Skinny Puppy and other Industrial live acts, then mixed it with Alice Cooper. The guy has never had an original thought, and any interview where people think he's being intelligent he's just being condescending and arrogant.

Who else combined industrial live acts and Alice Cooper before him?

2013-10-26 02:33:10 PM

J. Frank Parnell: He copied Skinny Puppy and other Industrial live acts, then mixed it with Alice Cooper.

Trent Reznor pretty much created the "popular" Manson (because without Reznor, Antichrist Superstar would not have existed, at least as it does, and Manson would have been what he was with the first album - a non-issue).  I don't care what was copied from who - Manson's Antichrist Superstar MADE him a superstar.  Mixed with Alice Cooper?  Meh, to a degree, makeup, girl's name or whatever (altho the idea behind the names has jack all to do with Cooper).  In the end, they created something fairly unique, and it hit BIG at the right time.  All rock steals from something that came before.  None of it matters now, since Manson's day in the sun is over.

That is your opinion, and you are welcome to it, but Manson is a brilliant lyricist and song writer, is pretty educated, and is incredibly intelligent - you simply MUST be to do what he has done - become rich and famous while pandering.  He knows how to play to a crowd.  He would have made an incredible politician.

Meh, music is just a hash of other people's work, mixed with their own style.  Everybody is influenced by others, but I think "copy" is a strong word here.  I've heard Skinny Puppy, Alice Cooper, and MM.  They are all different, even if they share some similarities.

That doesn't explain the absence of toilet paper.

(Also, when you got to go, you got to go.)

frepnog: Trent Reznor pretty much created the "popular" Manson

Trent Reznor used to open for Skinny Puppy and openly admits they influenced him. KMFDM was clearly a major influence on both of them musically, too. Him and Marilyn took industrial and commercialized it. And for that i will never forgive them. They're both good businessmen, sure, but they are not original artists.

I'd say that indicates he's good at manipulating people, but not necessarily intelligent.  If people like his stuff fine, but lets not pretend he was any kind of pioneer. There's about 30 years of industrial before he showed up with very much the same themes and lyrics, only more abrasive and non-radio friendly. When they decided to use the same type of music and image, but not use vocal distortion, that was done so they could get radio play, because radio doesn't allow vocal distortion. Although that might have changed with the rise of autotune.

At the heart of this issue for me is that industrial began as a very anti-pop and anti corporate, the same way punk did. Then much like what happened to punk, it was softened and neutered for radio play. By those two. So i hate them the same way old school punk fans hate Blink 182 and other modern 'punk'.

Not sure what kind of radio you've been listening to for the last few decades, or even what Marilyn Manson stuff you've ever heard, but distorted vocals (not just autotune) are pretty normal in songs on the radio, and Manson's voice has a fair number of effects and distortion in it on some of his stuff.

And boohoo, someone took your well loved obscure shiat and brought it out into daylight. You'd be surprised at the number of people who've listened to some of the commercial shiat you don't like and went on to check out and enjoy the obscure shiat. Often times the commercial stuff is a springboard for someone to gain an interest in more obscure and less commercialized music.

What we're seeing with Marilyn Manson now is what we would've seen if David Bowie had kept playing Ziggy Stardust for last 40 years.
