I'm guessing a ghetto drag queen hooker wearing cowboy boots and a sombrero would be right out.

Ban sexy costumes and I hope you get leveled by a meteor.   A shiat covered meteor.

Cowboys are offensive?  To whom?

Great.  What's next?  No more racist Christmas parties?  Next they'll be taking away misogynist spring break.

What's next?  CU killed the naked pumpkin run a few years ago.

I'm dreaming of a white Halloween...

The real parties are off campus anyway. No loss. Does the mall crawl still happen on Pearl?

me, now that I'm aware that I should be offended by them

Potentially offensive? is any costume not potentially offensive to some one?

2013-10-25 09:36:27 PM
Because if the Brits know anything, it's offensive costumes.

I dunno what's been going on in Boulder - that used to be such a cool campus, but some sort of religious or Dean Worner got ahold of the place and seems determined to stamp out anyone having a good time.

I almost remember the weekend I spent up there one year - we were going to the Rolling Stones - took me a day to find my car, which was, as I recall, a very good thing.  Wow.

Well, Redskins fans for starters.

Most of Dallas.

What, Wiccans don't qualify? It's OK to be bigoted against a pagan religion because it doesn't conform to their Judeo-Christian beliefs?
And don't even get me started on Devil costumes and Satanists.
Bigoted bastards.

being stupid is so easy

Living in Texas I've known quite a few Mexican Americans in my day and I've never met a single one who would be offended if you wore a sombrero.

HERO TAG!!!

By the phrasing of the article, it seems that this isn't going to be enforced and is simply a request. The only disciplinary actions will go out to the frat that hosts the Pimp n Ho party.

They're not really worried about offending the actual people being portrayed, mind you.

Are people still going to white knight college as a place to become a free thinker?

oh for fark's sake.

2013-10-25 09:50:30 PM
Huh.

I'm okay with this. I've never - not once - seen somebody wearing a sombrero who was not either a character in a Western or an asshole attempting to emulate a negative stereotype.

Stop being assholes. Halloween is for candy, kids and sexy witch costumes.

I wonder where in the Constitution it says that US citizens have the right to not be offended....

2013-10-25 09:56:14 PM
So the most popular costumes at CU this year will involve cowboys, sombraros, white trash outfits and every other "prohibited" theme.

Obviously an overreaction, but sadly there are still those that think the ghetto & ho/black-face parties are somehow funny.

2013-10-25 09:56:29 PM
Costumes such as the 'koch sucker' and 't-hadist' are a-ok.

You missed it.  Its after the part where it says the Bill of rights are just loose guidelines and before the part where it says government can "tax" you for not doing something.

If I went to school there, I would have responded by throwing a "free speech" costume party, where attendees had to dress up wearing one of the criticized costumes or be prohibited entry.  I would also provide a prize to the most "over-sexualised" costume.

The only people offended are middle class white kids who really, really want to be outraged by something so they can pretend they're the successors to Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, and other people who actually did something with their lives.

Nope. Recognized religion. It would be similar to going as Muhamed in a speedo.
