Yeah, we want more idiots doing microscopic views of their food then complaining it looks like it's not real food and then making blog posts about it on mothernaturenews.com

I already own a Smart Phone.  Real cost to me?  $10

Well then it'll also need a centrifuge and a PCR analyzer. No point in not being fully equipped.

Well, the problem is that the "real" microscope is real, the real one in the article is "real". Come on.

The common man cannot be trusted with science.

We must construct some manner of tower to keep all the science in. Perhaps made of ivory.

Exactly... So I'm a geek with a smart phone and an extra 10 quid, and not a researcher who needs a "real" microscope.

And you're a farkwit shiating in yet another thread for no apparent reason.

I want a REAL laser that can punch through six inches of steel.  I bet my smartphone can't do THAT ;)

He's going to use a combination of life extension technologies, 3D printing, and space rocketry to print out a rocket powered foot and stick it up your ass.  Maybe a "RedForemanStone" rocket powered foot.

You can also turn your phone into a telescope by pointing the camera into a telescope. It's not "science"... It's not even "technology".

Hint: It has everything to do with one particular personality.

I'm not sure how the economics play out for me. On the one hand, I do already have a smartphone, and probably an extra laser lens or two. On the other hand, I also already have a "real microscope" (OK, a high-school-bio-class-grade microscope). And a few old stereomicroscopes. And a ureteroscope.

Okay, what I really have is a gadget problem.

It's cool that he has stuck with it. I admire that. I still say I was one of the first to rail against you space-nutters.

You need a real microscope for that. At 400X they still look tiny, and you need to adjust the lighting to get more contrast. Most of the pictures you'll find on the internet are taken using a phase contrast microscope. You can use a standard compound microscope by adjusting the condenser diaphragm to increase the contrast, but it also reduces the resolution.
