I don't get this stupid 'scandal', and haven't gotten it for some days now.

BOTH SETS OF HATS LOOK EQUALLY RIDICULOUS. They're both horribly outdated early 19th century men's headwear that somehow failed to die out along with the stock and the culotte. WTF makes one more macho or less ugly than the other??

Don't like something? Blame Obama.

Don't like Obama? Make up something you can blame him for.

win-win.

The idea is sort of hilarious though. "As your commander-in-chief, from this day forth you shall all wear flowers in your hair!"

I heard Obama is forcing the Marines to check the religion of everyone they kill, and administer last rights in the victim's religion.

If I posted that on facebook, I can think of 5 friends who would repost it as true.

Can't really be uniform if some have boobies and others have cocks.

Even if they have the same asshats.

You should see what the pope makes his special forces wear before you complain about the hats.

Those complaining are welcome to tell a platoon of Marines what they think of their hats.

No!  Someone on Fark said because Obama is the CIC that it is ultimately his call on what hats Marines where and when!  This was a true Fark Independent, so it must be true!

The hats aren't that bad. The hot pants, though....

If you call it a "Hat," that means you don't know a damned thing about the Marine Corp.   A Marine would never call it a hat, they would only refer to it as a "Cover."

BTW, try calling this guy a "girly man"  I would say that his two separate Medals of Honor (earned 15 yrs apart) and his famous cry in another war about 12 yrs later (which led to him earning the Navy Cross) of "Come on you Sons of biatches:  Do you want to live forever?" as he lead his troops on an assault on a German position during WWI, earned him the right to rock this look -

At least they didn't have to wear those goddamn stupid assed berets like the Army did for a few years. Those things sucked ass.

So, the Marine Corps Uniform Board, which meets quarterly, decided to gather feedback in advance of its meeting next week. Active and Reserve Marines were asked to vote on whether they believe women should adopt the current male cover, with some small modifications, or for all Marines to adopt what they call the Dan Daly cap.
Sgt. Maj. Dan Daly, a two-time Medal of Honor recipient who yelled, "Come on, you queens, do you want to live forever?" as he led Marines into the fight at Belleau Wood during World War I, wore a cap similar to the option proposed by the survey.

I'm not so sure about this Daly Cap thing....

Marine here.  You wouldn't believe the number of other Marines who posted all kinds of silly shiat about this on fb.  I said from the get go that this is not going to happen - be it a made up issue or just some silly proposal that won't go anywhere.

Who's going to post the biatch and her crackers picture first?

Oh is that what that shiat was about...saw some numbass on my FB page post a shooped photo of GySgt Hartman dressing down Obama about respecting the Corps...that must have been what they were on about.

Not that GySgt Hartman would ever speak in such a way to his Commander in Chief, of course.

My comment was more in reference to the horrible reporter from the NY Post that originated this BS.

She supposedly got this info from a Marine involved in the process.  My point being that a Marine would never call it a "Hat" he/she would have referred to it as a "cover."   That was the first clue that she HAD NOT in fact spoken to anyone in the Corps.

It would be like claiming to have spoken to an Army guy who referred to his rifle or sidearm as a "gun" or a guy in the Navy, who refers to the bathroom as anything other than the "Head."

Daniel Daly:

Daly's decorations and medals includes two Medals of Honor; the Navy Cross; Distinguished Service Cross; three Letters of Commendation; Good Conduct Medal with two bronze stars; China Relief Expedition Medal; Philippine Campaign Medal; Expeditionary Medal with one bronze star; Mexican Service Medal; Haitian Campaign Medal; World War I Victory Medal with Aisne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne and Defensive-Sector clasps and Citation Star; Mdaille militaire; Croix de Guerre with Palm; and the Fourragre (the last three awards are from the French government; only the Croix de Guerre is authorized for wear by US personnel. A special exception is made for the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments, however. Those units are permitted to wear the Fourragere with their dress uniforms).

Hey Sugartits,

The point I was making went right over your head didn't it?

Any reporter who called this a "hat" had almost certainly never spoken to a Marine, because they would use their own nomenclature to describe it, not use the "layman's" term "Hat."

The Marine Corps Uniform Regulations refer to the item as a "cover" (not a hat) and that is how any "real" Marine would refer to it.

And then the reporter, if any good at their job, would change that term to "hat" because that's what the non-military audience would know it as.  Leaving it as "cover" without ever changing it at least once would confuse them, which would mean the reporter wouldn't have been doing what they're supposed to - facilitating knowledge of current events.

It's Stars & Stripes, I imagine he or she has spoken to a Marine before. And if you read the article, "hat" is in quotes, while it's referred to as a "cover" the rest of the time.

Maybe they can wear a baseball cap.  I know they could wear one backwards!  That would be awesome.  Fark tradition, they should just use whatever is currently popular for their uniform choices.
