Bareefer Obonghit: "Of course there's always that part of your brain that wonders if it's real or not," said Dawn Wasserman. "Better safe than sorry."No. Not better safe than sorry. You farking pussified shiatful cowards. You know who posts threats on Instagram? Angsty teenage douchebags with virtually nothing threatening about them. You are letting these losers win. There are ways to keep you & your kids safe on your trip without insulating them in a farking bubble every time some sadsack with the internet makes a cry for attention. fark them.
Schroedinger's Glory Hole: This decision is just sorry. If they wanted them to be safe the kids would have been armed as they got on the bus.
uncleacid: Parents can be Goofy.
the_vegetarian_cannibal: Any bets on the followup news story revealing that the post was made by a disgruntled student whose parents refused to sign his permission slip for the field trip?

Wellon Dowd: Anything that makes us safer is worthwhile. We might be so poor that we have to eat dirt and so timid that the sight of our own shadow causes us to piss our pants, but at least we'll be alive to enjoy it.
nanim: Middle school kids going 400 miles -anywhere- for a 'leadership conference'?
almandot: DId the article answer why they didn't search the kids for weapons, search the school, search whatever they need to, and then proceed with the trip as planned if not an hour late or something?

Pangea: Wellon Dowd: Anything that makes us safer is worthwhile. We might be so poor that we have to eat dirt and so timid that the sight of our own shadow causes us to piss our pants, but at least we'll be alive to enjoy it.It has occurred to me that science speculates this sort of cowardice is what led to the age of mammals in the first place. It is likely to be even more deeply ingrained than any sort of predatory instincts we may have developed over the last million years.Permanent Pussy Paradox
swingerofbirches: I don't know if my high school was unusual, but we had occasional bomb scares. Seems kind of odd when I think back on it. I think they were taken seriously, but not as seriously as they would be now.I was in my driver's ed class once when our school went into lockdown, which just meant that people had to stay where they were-we didn't evacuate. The police came into the school with a bomb-sniffing dog. There was a junior in the class who was a pretty funny cut-up. He was repeating driver's ed. He asked the teacher, "What if the dog has a cold?"Our teacher was also a quite funny woman, though unintentionally. She always addressed us collectively as, "People." And she would often close her eyes as if she was thinking really intently. So when he asked this, she closed her eyes, and got really serious, "People! If it's our time to go, it's our time to go!"That was quite stoic leadership!
Begoggle: How does canceling the trip make them safer exactly?
