2 years and 50k restitution on 5.5mil fraud. Ain't white collar crime great?

/would have been time served if she'd been white herself

At least she didn't have to pay back the $24 Billion and attend those meetings in the US Senate.

"A hearing to determine the amount of restitution she owes will be held Thursday."

Well... I'd say a good starting point would be in the neighborhood of about 5.5 mil.

I'm sure she doesnt have the money sitting in stocks, but DAMN if someone told me I could trade 2 years in white collar prison for $5.5M I would be ALL OVER that in a heartbeat.

Apparently ones goal in life should be to get in to ANY position where you have control over large amounts of money - then steal enough to live on for the rest of your life.  Time served is always (apparently) some incredibly tiny fraction of your remaining lifespan.

/theft should start at  6 months jail time - 1 additional year for every multiple of $25k stolen.  Certain bankers would be in jail for thousands of years, but I'm OK with that.

Why only her? Why not her criminal staff and accountants too? Stealing from the government and taxpayers should be bigger deal.

But if she had a big (excess of an ounce) bag of weed she would be in jail for up to 10 year in FLA

Not a fan of the Governor, but maybe Smits can remind me when Rick Scott was charged and convicted of fraud?

Good company of Rick Scott.
birds/feathers

More prison time than the Fiscal Sodomites on Wall Street.
Makes one wonder, eh?

I applaud your simple and beautiful proposal.

Why is the government persecuting this small business owner? This is a JOB CREATOR, damnit!

It is up to 3.8 trillion this year, the biggest it has ever been. You still can't just jump in the game without giving tribute to the inside men. This isn't 'Nam. There are rules. That is why they are rapping her across the knuckles.

I had to click through to the original article to make sure Subbs was kidding.  Yes, I do live in Florida.

Black people always be stealin

So, it works out you have to serve about 10 seconds per dollar you steal, so if you steal a candy bar the cop should walk you out of the store and let you off with time served?

I think its bs that she was applauded for being a nurse, mother, etc.

She stole 5+ million dollars, throw her applauded rear in jail and throw away the key, sieze her assets, tske the gold out of her mouth, and give her kids to family who ain't stealing.

/Repeat for all white collar crooks.

a court date was set for restitution, the state is seeking $4 mil. If she can get a job after prison (30 year criminal history, some companies apparently skip the background checks nowadays) she will probably be working for close to free the rest of her life....or get a job in government.

subby keeds but south Florida's economy runs on Medicare and Medicaid fraud.

Because the crime is so widespread, prosecutors don't even bother going after anyone unless they've stolen $500,000 or more.
