It's not Fark; it's the pointless musings of a belly-gazing attention whore.

Somebody should kill that kid with an axe for the good of the community.

That article was as pointless as a truck full of unsharpened pencils.

It never occurred to him to read the syllabus?

Also, this is an article?

Also, also. This is the kid who destroys the curve for us all, but never actually LEARNS anything, and is exactly what's wrong with higher education from a student standpoint.

He didn't follow the instructions.  The assignment was to "write and deliver a five minute speech about our greatest fear and how it has helped us become who we are."    Instead, the dumbass rambled on for five minutes about how much he loves Dostoyevsky.

If I assign students a paper on hominin osteology, a submission that presents a deconstruction of the popularity of Breaking Bad in the context of the radical feminist reinterpretation of the drug war gets a zero, no matter how eloquently written it is.

Is everybody else reading that headline to the tune of the third verse of 'Somebody That I Used To Know', or is it just me?

CSB:
In eighth grade drama class, I volunteered to be in an improve. Well, I get up on stage in front of like 50 kids, and the one girl on stage is a girl I have a crush on. In eighth grade a crush is pretty strong, so I told myself not to fark this up. The teacher says I'm to play her dad, and the next volunteer will be her date coming to pick her up, and I'm to act like a concerned father and try to screw with the date's head. Well, We start the whole thing and every time I do something the entire class is cracking up. They're in hysterics. I can do no wrong. I'm sure to win her over with my superior acting abilities. The scene ends and I go and take my seat. This one classmate is next to me and he says, Man, that was funny as fark. I go, really? He says, yeah, I NEVER would have had the balls to go up there and do all that with my fly down. Brilliant, dude.

Uh... I have a syllabus for every class which I have ever taken which provides at least a modicum of description of the assignments. Whenever a class has been missed, either a rubric or similar scale for the assignment was provided to me by a friend, was available online, or would be emailed after I spoke to the instructor. Plus, were I to prattle on about an idol when the topic was how our greatest fears have shaped our lives, a professor might have approached me afterward to ask if I understood the assignment due to my absence and give me another opportunity to at least write the speech and use my performance for the grade. Probably would have approached them afterward what with the apparent disconnect between my topic and the topic the rest of the class spoke on to denote my clear misunderstanding.

I hated kids like that so much in high school and college. I had two different courses in college where my grade was an entire letter lower than it should have been, because some asshole found a way to tank everyone else's grades just so he could get 100% that he didn't even need. I work with some people like that now, and they're totally helpless, because they're incapable of doing anything other than regurgitating.

Heh heh.  Sorry, I just made that up.  It wouldn't surprise me to find that someone was actually writing it as their dissertation or master's thesis in anthropology or sociology though.
