Has anyone 'accidentally' sang the wrong country's national anthem before?

Slaxl: Has anyone 'accidentally' sang the wrong country's national anthem before?

I can't recall anyone ever singing the wrong one, but there have been some blunders where the wrong one was played from PA systems, such as the Borat parody Kazakhstan anthem being played at a Kuwaiti shooting competition.  Of course, the Kazakhstanis seem to have trouble with their anthem themselves.

Plus, who can tell apart Australia and New Zealand, or Serbia and Yugoslavia?

"Listen, people, I'm not as laid back as people think. Now here's the deal: I'm going to play, and you're going to sit there and like it."

2013-10-25 08:49:52 AM
But then he played "America the Beautiful" for real in the 7th inning stretch instead of "God Bless America", which redeems that mistake and then some.

2013-10-25 08:59:40 AM
So he was singing live and not lip syncing?  Props to that.

2013-10-25 09:02:55 AM
I'd prefer America the Beautiful as opposed to a half assed poem written by an ambulance chaser set to a British drinking song.

Its nice to get the real deal sometimes instead of some fake farking diva, amirite, Beyonce?

He don't know much about history.

Celine Dion butchered the French version of the Canadian anthem at the NHL All Stars game.  I was back stage.

Woman is a real biatch in person, too.

James, get stoned after you sing the Anthem.

Absolutely this. I'll take the occasional goof up to hear it live, instead of flying someone to your city, putting them up in a five-star hotel and then playing an mp3.

2013-10-25 09:30:57 AM
It would actually make a much better national anthem. The current war poem with tortured grammar set to a hideous tune may reflect our current condition, but the anthem should be aspirational.

I was more amused at Mary J. Blige not getting the anthem done in time for the flyover before game 1

This was back in Philly in '92.  She was still in her diva grooming period.

Yeah, except he was already planning on singing America the Beautiful during the seventh inning, so he didn't arbitrarily start singing the wrong song out of nowhere; he just started off with the wrong song after rehearsal. He realized his mistake right away and, because he's a pro, fixed it such that it probably sounded intentional to many people hearing it live. It's not uncommon to do a medley of those two songs.

Musicians do this all the time. Most of the time, their songs aren't recognizable enough that the average person can spot a mistake like this, and you just say, "eh, live show."

2013-10-25 09:52:33 AM
He did it on purpose, knowing that the anthem was the trigger signal to cause on of the players to assassinate the Queen.

That's what you get when you take our anthem and "make it your own". She even had to pause, they were so loud.

Pretty funny to see her in a generic "World Series" jacket, as she's a native New Yorker singing in Boston. They couldn't have picked somebody with Red Sox ties to sing? This ain't the Super Bowl, Bud Selig. We want to singers to be supporting the local teams.

America the Beautiful is Best National Anthem.

Slaxl: Has anyone 'accidentally' sang the wrong country's national anthem before?

In the '92 World Series between the Braves and the Blue Jays the Marine Corps Color Guard accidentally flew the Canadian flag upside down. If it was, in fact, an accident. Some said it was intentional.

In 1990 comedian Roseanne Barr sang the national anthem before a regular season game between the Padres and the Reds in her predictably screechy voice and followed up by spitting on the ground and grabbing her crotch like a baseball player adjusting his cup. This was met with outrage.

James Taylor's quickly self-corrected mistake will only be remembered by baseball trivia nuts. He is so well loved that he could have sung America the Beautiful all the way through and the audience would have loved it.

Yeah, I was tired of that "God Bless America" at every possible turn shiat by Sept 12, 2001.

ohh i have the sciatica and lower lumbar pain,
my trick knee always hurts when it rains.

Sometimes i have shingles because of the burning on my skin,
And I fear I will never poop without having to eat prunes and bran again.

Give ol JT a break - he did a lot of drugs back in the 60's and 70's and seems to function quite well nowadays, despite that fact.

It almost sounded like he was addressing "America, the Beautiful" when asking the question posed in the first lines of the "Star Spangled Banner".

America, the Beautiful, O say can you see?

And then there was Burton Cummings of "The Guess Who" singing "Oh Canada."

Or this idiotic blonde radio host from 102.1 in Toronto  screwing it up. Aah! Shut her up already!

But this is probably my favorite screw up ever of "The Star Spangled Banner.|

What's especially striking about her rendition is that you'd think she'd try to do that terrible warbling thing where she goes through every single note on the scale, but she sings it purely and crystal clear.

Oops!  Nice recovery though.  One of the less musical pop stars would have just frozen like a deer in headlights.  If they'd have heckled him he'd have told them to get off his lawn, I bet.  He's great in concert, very dry wit and always a great backing band with him.

being the WORLD SERIES, shouldn't he have sung "We Are the World" or some other crap like that?

Does anyone know if the UN has an anthem ?
