(Some Guy)   You know those invasive toads that have taken over the islands in the South Seas? They're no longer a problem now that a Polish designer has started dying their skins and putting precious stones in their eyes   (plushasia.com) divider line 28

He better be pretty skilled at removing poison glands or he might kill someone.

That must suck for the toads.

Well it was that or introduce the cane apes to kill the cane toads.

And there is no winter in the Polynesian islands.

Maud Dib: Dying?
Misspeled hedline-=greenlight!

The only surer way to a greenlight is a headline that shows Subby didn't really read the article!

What AverageAmericanGuy typed to appear just above.
Of Course!!! But said toads invasive, undesired, destructive of native fauna, mayhap more.  Didn't read carefully enough to see if conversion to Amphibian Bling benefits islands they invaded, or just designer/converter.
Also Maud Dib who may Edit in real life, for initial comment.

I'd have called them chazwozzers

I'd really like to hear what vegans think of using invasive species as fashion accessories and food

2013-10-25 11:16:15 AM
OK so the "article" call them a fashion accessory, but never shows them as such. Just a hand full of flat red toads.

//And "Flat Red Toads" would be a fun band name

Fashion accessories? Nice idea, but that suggests they'll fall out of fashion sooner or later. Any chance practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine could be persuaded that cane toads are even better than rhino horn or tiger penis?

Now where would someone get the idea of using real creatures for jewelry?

The next thing you know, someone will be collecting toad shiat, doctor it up a little bit to make it look pretty, and sell it as authentic toadstools.

Sounds like somebody's been lickingthe toads ...

That pun cries out for a good cane, even if the toads are some other species.

As a rule, things made out of dead animal parts are gross, but since this is an invasive species that threatens the ecosystems it invades, go crazy! Knock yourselves out!

I always say anything that can be eaten is not a problem. I guess that applies to fashion accessories as well. I would love to try North Atlantic lion fish some day. I wonder if it is tasty?

Now if only they were delicious they would be completely wiped out.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, and don't take this as sarcasm, it is not; I simply want to make sure I understand you correctly.

Essentially you said, "In response to AverageAmericanGuy's post, I wanted to remind him/her that the toads in questions are an invasive, undesired, destructive to native fauna and possibly more.  I didn't see in the article where or how this is positively benefiting the islands and area, though so it may just benefit the designer/converter of the toad "bling".

"Also Maud Dib who may Edit in real life, for initial comment" I think you're saying that Maud Dib can edit his or her comment in real life he or she made as the Weeners.  I don't understand that one.

I believe the next line is showing appreciation for the images both FangQ and Blatz514 posted.  "lol, FanQ and Blatz514, I will have to find a use for that somewhere!"

If that's correct my response to you would be the following:

I believe the main benefit to the countries is simply removing the toads as quickly as she can make "bling" from them.  Other than that, I would hope that she is paying for the toads as well so the finances generated from that would be beneficial to the area as well.  But that's my assumption as the article didn't go in-depth about it.
