And here I was, about to blame the uptick in Jacobs on Twilight fans, only to find that it peaked several years before Twilight was ever published. Anyone have any clue what sparked the shift?

Jacob grew steadily in popularity from the 1960s to the 1990s ...

You can't go wrong with naming your kids after anime characters.  After all: sharing your genes, they're going to get bullied and commit suicide anyways.

How's that work out if I get bullied and kill myself before I have a kid, exactly?

Wow, they list my name at less than 200. Seems too high given the lack of people I have met with my name/spelling.

My wife: ~250. Seems ok if mine is ok.

My kids on the other hand #1: 3,600+, #2: 22,600+. I guess I should not expect them to get confused with their classmates.

Also, if you go to pokemybirthday.com from the pokemyname.com site you find this tidbit when you plug in your birthday:

(Your birthday -182 days):
Your parents could have lawfully got an abortion until 14.April, Friday so this is also an important day of your life. Today they decided you should live!

We are glad they didn't otherwise, we'd lose one site visitor in pokemybirthday.com.

I'm a school teacher and have seen waves of popular girl names.  Emily, Victoria, Jessica, Kaitlyn.  I always attributed it to some pop culture icon or tv-show/movie that was popular shortly before they were born.

I don't believe this website. There's no mention of the legion of -en names (aiden, cayden, brayden, etc).

nanim: no kidding re: Jennifers everywhere! - who/what started that trend?

per wikipedia - Though its popularity is often attributed to the use of the name in the novel and film Love Story, Jennifer was already the number three name given to baby girls in the  in 1969, the year before the book and movie were released.

So, in other words, who knows?  Don't know why my name suddenly surged from practically unknown to the top 5 the last two or three years, either.

/Huh, didn't know Jennifer was related to Guinevere.

My guess is the different spellings make it difficult for a computer to recognize Jaden, Jayden, Jeighdon, and Jayyedenne as the same.

Jayden was apparently the top name in Florida from 2008-2012, per that graphic.

What caused "Chris" to dominate the south starting in 1982?

Huh, ND leading a few trends. Funny how more than a few times a name starts there, then a year or two later it's all over the upper Midwest.

They did women's names a week ago, then tacked this on as an after-thought. Possibly to show how men never change, or something.
