bungle_jr: i am an animal lover and a pet owner (2 turtles and a dog). i believe in giving homes to pets in need. however, i HATE the term "forever home". not certain why...it just grates on my nerves. it's like saying "home" isn't good enough...but seriously, you can promise "forever"?

"Forever" as opposed to "until I get tired of you"? Yeah, I give my pets a forever home.

it does encourage people to think of adoptions at shelters as permanent.  there are way too many people who "return" animals for dumbass reasons.
my three adopted cats are all from homes where people decided they didn't want cats anymore.  one after ELEVEN YEARS of having her (because of a baby), one after eight years (because they were moving), and one after three years (because they just didn't want her, even though she's adorable and playful and awesome).

However, I will tell you that I have had several pets from birth to death and never took any to the pound/gave away etc. because of some stupid sh*t thing like getting married/moving/having a baby/getting tired of the pet/particular breed 'going out of style' etc.  So yeah, forever ever, barring sudden death and that is entirely beyond my control.

I am just sick of people considering animals disposable as soon as they tire of it.

HEAR, HEAR!!

I can.  And do.

forever ever?

/sorry
//ms jackson?

Unfortunately, I am not privy to the Ms. Jackson meme so no, I don't get it.

dragonchild: Barfmaker: Loosen the collar he's not a frickin' bobblehead.

This, holy fark.  That cat might be better off living under the subway.  At least there'd be plenty of mice to eat, and death by electrocution sure beats a slowly crushed neck.

NO. Subway cats don't live very long. And they have fleas and shiat. And breed more subway kitties, whose lives will also suck.

The humans will loosen the cat's collar and the cat(s) will be happy, spoiled, and long lived.

biggest song in the world for like 2 years, yet the joke is lost on this crowd.

What song?

if you have to ask
you'll never know

/that there is another song

Whatever. Some of us actually listen to music.

i don't quite get what you're saying
are you saying you don't listen to the popular top 40 tunes?
if so, that is perfectly cromulant.
however, you obviously know the hit to which i refer, or you wouldn't have bothered commenting.
do you know the other song to which i refer? from which the "if you have to ask" line derived?

No, I do not listen to top 40 and have not ever since they stopped playing actual music and became purveyors of autotuned schleck that all sounds the same. No, I have no idea what song you are referring to. Would I ask if I did?

Someone asked for pictures. Here is Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) with his kittens

[i283.photobucket.com image 600x450]

i can tell you the 2nd song i posted was NOT top40 dreck

and last i heard, peter mayhew lives about 10 miles from me. come over and we can go track down chewie and his kittens.

So give me the name and the performer and I can decide for myself. Why the secrecy?

as i poorly attempted to explain, it's not the idea of "forever home", it's the term that grinds my gears. certain phrases/terms just irritate me. again, i'm likely alone in this, and i understand.

It's cool, I get you.  It's not the sentiment, it's the saccharine coating that sort of squeaks on the teeth.  I get like that about the rainbow bridge.  Permanently stuck somewhere between having my heartstrings tugged on and privately going 'oh, barf,' even though I still cry once in a while about my best cat that I lost a decade ago.  I'll never rag on the concept, I really do get it and it's terrific and lovely for a lot of people.  It's just a bit much for me personally.

Contents Under Pressure: The mistake was having large and loud (I used to live there) transit workers stomping around yelling, "HERE F*CKING KITTY KITTY!" If they'd gotten a couple of shelter workers, the subways would have been running sooner. That said, Go Brooklyn!

That and the travelers doing the same thing. Or trying to toss Doritos and potato chips to them. Along with the guy with the big camera rushing to follow their path.

/was there, that's my stop. I was way back and tried to zoom in with my iPhone and this was the best I could get.

There are shelters, foster home, and other temporary housing.  Forever home is just a quick identifier that it's a permanent adoption versus a temporary one.

Not being NYC-centric, how did kittens shut down a subway, and why would they vote for de Blasio?
