Kobe may be overpaid for his on the court production, but it's an earned overpayment from a career of success, and he probably makes up that deficit in merchandise sales.  None of those other guys have accomplished all that much and none of them are merchandise stars.  Of course, I fully expected Sheridan to put him on the list, I wouldn't expect anything less.

Hey Kobe.  You can have a shot at a ring or another bazillion dollar contract.  Which is it going to be?

List fails. Gilbert Arenas. He's not even on the team and banking $20 million this season.

After watching that Lamar Odom TMZ video... Wow.

Joe Johnson is not the reason the hawks ownership broke up, they broke up because they spent that money when they didnt have it and the other owner was pissy because the other owners were already dismantling the thrashers to funnel money to the hawks. F*ck those guys, the thrashers would still be in atlanta if they didnt destroy the team.

Kobe is an all-time great and great for Lakers marketing. He shouldn't be considered overpaid.

However,

This. Kobe should have taken a paycut.

What do you mean "should have"? He's under contract, they can't just modify it right now. This year the contract expires. We'll see if he agrees to a normal max contract (or maybe even less) or if he insists on another 30 mil, which means he's not getting ring number 6.

Odds are he's not getting #6 either way. He isn't nearly good enough to be the best player on a championship team any more, and his ego won't let him play second (or really, 3rd or 4th if he wants the ring) banana. Hell, the only team right now he could join and have even odds of winning the championship is Miami, and he wouldn't even start for them at this point, even if healthy.

Wow.

So A) they can't offer him more than a max contract. Max is short for maximum. You know what the word "maximum" means?
B) No one's giving Kobe a max contract after this season.

The Clippers could use a shooting guard.  He already threatened to go across the aisle years back, and now they're a real team.  If anyone could work with Kobe to keep him engaged, it's Chris Paul.

A) Max as in maximum according to the current CBA rules, not the grandfathered salary rules he has now. His current contract is worth more than 1 Lebron James and 1 Stephen Curry. Basically 35% of a team's salary cap.

B) Are you sure no one would pony up the $20 million for a season of Kobe? For marketing purposes? The man sells a lot of jerseys still.
