The one thing this piece of stupid will be good for is parking at the scene of a post-football-game drunken riot. Go ahead, douchebros, try overturning this baby. Enjoy your hernias.

MRAP, nice.  Little Oxford, OH recently acquired two military up-armored HMMWVs.  They claimed it was because their Special Response Team Brinks Truck was too noisy.  Obviously they've never heard those old GM diesels, as the Hummers are probably noisier.  The militarization of the police has to stop.

"'People have a stereotype about what campus police are about,' he said. 'We look at ourselves as a city within a city.'"

1. This changes nothing of my stereotypes about any campus police

2. Spoken like someone who has never stepped foot in an actual city, makes it sound like we take tanks to work for safety.

Total waste of money.  They're playing in Ann Arbor this year.

lack of warmth: Total waste of money.  They're playing in Ann Arbor this year.

I was hoping they had something to defend against the short pass.

And a blurb:

At the center of the recent debate over the need for OSU's
newest police vehicle is an issue that has been talked about for years:
the continued militarization of local law-enforcement agencies.
Experts who study the trend say more local agencies than ever
routinely rely on paramilitary tactics and military equipment,
much of it the aging detritus of two decades of war.

Doom MD: Love the MMA reference

FYI: Combat metaphors for football (e.g. ground/aerial attack, bomb, war of attrition) have been in use since long before MMA emerged as a sport.

Stale news is stale. Articles on this are from a month ago http://www.nbc4i.com/story/23457727/osu-police-obtained-an-army-surpl u s-armored-personnel-vehicle

One or two suburbs around here bought these things so the parking police at OSU must've had a case of monster truck envy. bfd

Used to be it was a level playing field. They had muskets. We had muskets. Now, shiat is getting serious when the gulf between the insane and the rest of us is widening to this extent.

They changed the formulation of Styrofoam and put additives in gasoline these days that it doesn't get the same result as it used to.

What is funny is all the stuff where something like that could ever possibly be of use something even remotely in the same family as a vehicle like this happens in CPD jurisdiction off campus.  This is patently absurd.  In the history of the university, which does have a genuine police force, not some trumped up security team, there has been exactly one police officer die in the line of duty.  It was such a unique and shocking experience, the building there the OSUPD is housed is named after him. This will be a pretty show piece that they'll roll out when recruiting and something to park near the stadium on OSU football games to show off how modern they are.

My prediction:  This vehicle will be used to satisfy the weird authoritarian kinks of at least three different officers before anyone actually uses it for anything it was designed for.

It would be funny if someone were to carry a battery cables and a welding rod with them during events where this thing shows up, and weld the doors shut. A couple quick tacks and you have plenty of time to seal it proper like.
