Don't start counting those nickels just yet--the Saudis might just decide to stick it to Obama....

Guess what, we produce more oil than they do now, so I dunno about that.

Ooh I'm scared. We'll just have to start exporting less oil than they do.

Too late, Obama must have been in Houston last week - $2.89 for unleaded at my neighborhood store.

/but still $3.24 for super. CURSE YOU, OBAMA! WHY DO YOU HATE BOOSTED ENGINES???!?

We produce a lot of NG now. Thanks to fracking. A lot of people are pissed about that.

Wait a minute, I thought all you libs still thought this was Bush's economy.

MisterTweak: $2.89 for unleaded at my neighborhood stor

e

Ugh... still $3.39-$3.49 here (NY), but to be fair, that has been dropping here too.

Will never see $3.00 gas in these parts

2013-10-23 08:48:29 PM
To be fair they burn a log of of the NG off because there isn't enough profit to bother putting in a pipe-line.

Diesel still cost 3.84 a gallon even though it's a by-product of making gas...

The bad parts are Bush's. The good parts are Obama's. Will I have to wait 'till December to buy gas?

Something, something, failed energy policy, something, something.

I drive a VOLT and I just went over 5 thousand miles and only used 11 gallons of gas. Having a level 2 quick charger in my garage has been great for getting a lot of battery powered travel.

Right now gas is 3.05 but it has been under 3 a few weeks ago.

Do you happen to live somewhere where it snows? I think a Volt may be my next car.

down in Texas we already have under $3 gas but that's because we're Real American Patriots and pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps

I think we all know how this goes, when gas prices go up whichever party is not in the white house blames the president.  When they go down, nothing is said.

how much has your electric bill gone up in that period?  Are you coming out ahead with the Volt?

cameroncrazy1984: Uh. What?

OK, see, it's in the same vein as "I blame Bush" and "Damn you Obama", where all the bad stuff is caused by the other side and all the good stuff was accomplished by our side. It means nothing. Ask your mom. Also, I'm waiting for somebody to ask me how the f*ck I'm going to make it to December without buying gas so I can say "I drive a Prius" while smirking at my monitor.

////HTH

you think that the Saudis and their OPEC buddies can't decide to slow production right before the holidays and cause the barrel price to jump?

You think the US dependence on foreign oil is the same as it was in 2006?

2013-10-23 09:28:44 PM
I just wish premium would follow regular unleaded. Here in CT, the regular is down to 3.20-3.30 but premium stays fixed at 4.00+ most places.

/was stupid to buy a car needing premium
//and more stupid to move from Texas to CT

Gas is still $3.59 here.  Boo.

Are we talking REAL gas here or are we talking about gas that has been ruined by ethanol?

/paid $4.199 for the real stuff last week in central FL

I haven't owned a car in years. I pack what I need in my messenger bag and ride my bike to work. I pay exactly $0.00 for gasoline.

Marathon/Mug-U-thon will not allow it.

2013-10-23 10:10:54 PM
I wonder how much of this is because of the new fuel economy standards imposed on passenger vehicles.

Gas recently dropped below $3.80 in my neighborhood for the first time in months.

Good thing we only use gasoline for personal transportation.  Otherwise, the price might affect you.

Gosh, sorry, we have to suddenly shut down half of the oil refineries for unexpected repairs and upgrades!  Funny that!

I remember when I had to buy gasoline, putting $60 into my truck every week. I'm glad I don't have to do that any more. I'm MrSteve007 and I am addicted to gasoline. I've been petrol free* for 10 months, 15 days and 9,263 miles now - and I couldn't be any happier.

Bonus: since you are on PSE like me, a lot of that electricity comes from hydro and wind, so no one can whine about coal being burned to get that electricity.

Domestic supply protects you from a 1970's style embargo but it doesn't protect you from paying world prices.
World prices depend on world supply and demand.
OPEC can still affect world supply and price, although that effect is reduced now.

Oil from things like fracking, deep sea drilling and tar sands mining is inherently expensive to produce as well, so its ability to push prices down is limited.

An excellent point - although I get all of my annual energy needs from rooftop solar (using locally built solar panels, that I picked up from the factory myself) so all my power is about as squeaky clean as humanly possible.

I don't have a volt, but my Think costs about 2 cents per mile in electricity, so I am definitely coming out ahead. That is when I don't just charge for free at work.

3.25 for unleaded w/ethanol (90/10 ish) in SE-PA
3.59 for 'pure' unleaded.

So the oil speculators have suddenly decided to bilk the public by driving the price down? Man, those bastards really play the long game, don't they?
