I liked the trivia questions he'd answer on the 10:00 news.

twobux: I liked the trivia questions he'd answer on the 10:00 news.

I stumped Bill Mazer on the 10 O'Clock News back in 1988. Put the question in the mail on Monday and it was read on that Thursday. I won two tickets to a Mets game and saw David Cone's first career shutout.

Who was the first player to play for both the Mets and the Yankees? Amazjn' said Yogi Berra; correct answer was Marv Throneberry. When they came back from commercial he was still incredulous that he didn't know it. "Marv Throneberry, I'll never forget that."

Keith Olbermann did a nice segment on Bill Mazer last night.

Never heard of him.  Assume if he was a long time sports fixture in Omaha his death wouldn't have gotten a Fark greenlight nor a segment on Olbermann's show

As someone who watched a lot of 10 o'clock news I salute you.

Count me in that lot when I was a kid.  Jeez, you actually had sportscasters worth a fark to listen to back in the day.  Warner Wolf at WCBS, Marv Albert at WNBC and Mazer at WNEW/WNYW.

RIP Amazin'.
