(CBS News)   If your license has been suspended 12 times, what the hell. What's totaling out a police cruiser going to matter?   (cbsnews.com) divider line 19

Who were those people yesterday who were saying that we should treat firearms like we treat the privilege of driving a car?

I think it really depends on WHY your license was suspended, and hate that it gets left out.

Around here, paying a parking ticket literally a day late will result in your license being suspended. It will promptly be restored once you pay your ticket, of course, but it was still technically "suspended". Couple that with places like where I live, where not getting a parking ticket at least a couple of times a year is almost impossible, and you have plenty of normal responsible people who have a bunch of "suspensions" on their record.

So I always wonder when you see those stories about "some monster with 15 previous suspensions" who was in an accident, if those 15 suspensions were for actual dangerous behavior, or if the person just sucked at paying their tickets.

Maybe in most cases, but not really relevant here. Already arrested for drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident. She's not getting my sympathy.

She is going to kill someone.

I agree. My license has beem suspended 6 times in the last 4 years, all from 1 charge. What really sucks if they catch you driving on a suspended, automatically suspended for another year. Don't believe I'll ever get it back

Detroit doesn't suspend a license for silly things like parking tickets.  For that they just take the car when the total gets high enough.  To get a suspension, it takes really bad driving or DWI.  Driving without a license and insurance is fairly too common.  I do give two points for totaling the patrol car, that is good thinking if you have any hope of getting away.  Would've made it if the car didn't leave a trail to be followed.

Hey, I'm generally pretty responsible, but once every couple of years I forget to say renew my registration, or pay a bill... sometimes things are just shiny and man it would be fun to go ride my bike and get some dinner.
