", twigs and bark of eucalyptus trees, claiming a "eureka" moment which could revolutionise gold mining. "

So the solution is to plant trees all over and then have the people check them every X years for gold in their leaves? And if you find some, you assume there's a gold deposit under that area and dig them all up to get to it?

Well it's not really grown subby, it's just transferred to the leaves from the soil. The tree doesn't produce any gold it self. If it did, there would be a guaranteed amount of eucalyptus trees to raise the koala population up to that of squirrels.

Nonrepeating Rotating Binary: Never mind that is a ludicrously small amount of gold in each tree...

If I understood the article, the gold in the tree isn't what you want. It's finding the gold in the rock that's a biatch. When you find gold in the tree...you look under it for the gold deposits in the rock.

Gold can also be created artificially (at least two ways we know of, outside of stars), it just costs waaaay more than it's worth.

I hate to be a nudge but they are not growing gold, the trees are extracting the gold from the ground.

I actually think they are wrong and the trees are extracting the gold from the areas soil and rocks.
