I'm not saying I dislike him, but everything I've ever seen from him just makes me think he's a bit of a doofus. And just maybe a little buzzed.

I want to have sex with James Franco.  He seems like he would be talented in the sack.

This was pretty awesome.

drtfa but from what I have seen of the guy , I can't but help admiring him.
He seems to do what he wants and doesn't give a shiat about what you
head-up-yer-asses Farkers or anyone else thinks of him.
Also he makes lots of money doing what he enjoys.
He also always seems pretty happy. Maybe he's a depressed sad clown when
not in front of the cameras, but somehow I doubt that.

That actually wasn't awesome. The link to the Danny Mcbride and Steve Little interview was though.

I don' t feel like watching 3 videos of him talk about a book. Anyone have a breakdown of what he said?

He knows that if he tells you then you won't want to buy it

Hey, I'm all for making fun of actors

but he poses a legitimate existential metaphor. And it's not so far removed from so many other examples in life (such as physical substance addictions) that only once you are so completely removed from what you once knew as 'normal', can you then be able to honestly and objectively examine that normalcy.

Indeed, many an actor becomes lost from who they are because not just the job, but the 'acting' social persona that develops severs their grounding from whomever they used to be.

Some might say that people who are bat shiat crazy just gravitate towards acting. But given the many examples of well rounded individuals that get warped by the world of Hollywood, it's fair to ask the question, is it acting and the acting community that can cause this crisis of identity?

And if so, what can we learn about that aspect of our identities/psyches that excessive acting so ably distorts?
(the 'interaction' addiction he hints at, the physical substance parallel being escapism?)

/never pass up a chance to use the word 'indeed'

Eh...he strikes me as a guy who would talk a lot during sex. That's a big turnoff.

I suggest you go watch This Is the End. In it, they make a sequel to Pineapple Express. It also has the following quote: "Let's not do a sequel to Your Highness."

Satanic_Hamster: Pineapple Express.

your highness was a pile, but I would gladly chip in to a kickstarter for a PE sequel.

Hell, the idea for it laid out in This Is The End was pretty damned funny.

I follow but if that's all he said and truly believes acting in a movie or play is real life, he's legitimately a crazy person.
/though I'm sure the overall conversation and context described the book as an exercise rather than reality.

Jesus, WTF? It's in three farking parts... James Franco is cool and all, and I'm sure he was funny, but I just wanted to watch the part that this goddam greenlit link was about. I finally gave up about a minute into the 3rd part.

Not so crazy. Most of life is performance--we perform gender, culture, different roles for different friends, whatever. Or perhaps analogous to performance might be a better way to phrase it. No one is distinct or excused from these institutions, behavior is learned. This isn't a revolutionary idea, not really.

/why yes, I do have a degree in English

This Is The End turned out to be funnier and more satisfying than the Pegg/Frost comedy The World's End, which ironically may be a sign of the apocalypse.

He seems like a smart guy who's been told he's brilliant. He needs more humility and self-hatred to really be an artist.

Also, he's sexy. But I try not to let that color my judgment.

World's End was disappointing.  Sad, because I am a big Pegg\Frost fan.  Don't get me wrong, the movie was ok, but seriously nothing I'll re-watch.  The best part was the ending.  I would have liked to explore THAT world a bit more, and we will never get to.
