Told my neighbor to camouflage the shed he's building, including the roof, for just this reason.  It's smaller than what the town says you need a building permit for, but if they don't know about it, they won't stick their nose in and insist on measuring it in the first place.

My job involves scripting automated analysis of satellite imagery using GIS to look for certain structures and cropping patterns (not for the government or law enforcement) so these stories always give me a chuckle.

/our work is more around water management and where people are growing certain stuff

but if they all did this, we wouldn't be able to make fun of them when the story inevitably hits Fark.

This is clearly another case of "anonymous" tip obtained by illegal surveillance.

Hey, Google Earth is as good an explanation as any, right?

You didn't read TFA, did you?

He bragged about it, THEN the cops checked on GE.

Always purchase your County Platte Book (if your County still doesn't have a GIS outfitted Assessor's office), any County/State/Fed officials (or police) who have sufficient acreage should have their `back 40' liberally broadcast with hemp seeds in early Spring. Must have been the birds shiating them, right?

Buy a drone, vid. the patch and post it on youtube and demand they be arrested.

Weeds, how does that work?

I would compare it to the old Edgar Allen Poe story, The Imp of Perversity.  The idea being that even though you've gotten away with something, you cannot keep to yourself about it.

This. And I just passed thru Grants Pass this morning. In Humboldt to the south, everyone knows their shiat is on google earth. It's how you keep the peace with your neighbors and your mouth shut is how you stay in operation.

according to the Grants Pass Daily Courier via CNET

Why do you always have to go three knuckles deep to get to the original story? Does anyone write they're own farking news stories anymore?

csb I was messing around on google earth and I decided to look around and I checked out my dad's house. I could see his truck and everything in the driveway. He had died a few months prior and it was like looking back in time to when my dad was still around. I didn't expect to see that when I was poking around google earth, and it was an emotional moment that I had not expected to spend with google. /csb

We had some farmers in my area busted for doing this about 20 years ago.   Appatently, on infrared, the marijuana shows up different than the corn does, and the cops can tell the difference

Ariel observation, how does it work?
