He's not wrong.

2013-10-22 09:38:20 AM
Oddly enough for a religion that supposedly reveres truth, I feel he is going to catch a lot of flack for telling it.

2013-10-22 09:47:46 AM
every time this pope opens his mouth, i like him more.

2013-10-22 09:48:56 AM
A few more years of this guy and Timothy Dolan's going to burst a blood vessel in his eye and declare a new schism.

2013-10-22 09:53:31 AM
When he says things like this, I like to go on FB and see it totally ignored by the religious nuts.

At the same time he will bring many believers back home to the HRCC.

I have a sad feeling that this pope may not last too long.

I wasn't aware that the Catholic church could fire it's Pope.  That seems.. wrong.

He's not talking about Catholicism, btw.

He means you you fruity protestants, you Baptists & etc.

Calling out hate-filled radicals and extremists isn't good for your health, you silly Pope-alope-a-ding-dong.

He's also a Communist. So take anything he says with a grain of salt.

Whaddya know... A decent guy as Pope, finally.

2013-10-22 10:01:05 AM
This Pope is smart.  He understands that the Church is practically pushing people out of the doors with unltraconservatism.

I think that he is saying what he knows he needs to say in order to shake things up and save the very institution that he is the head of.

OP is suggesting something more sinister. That said, rumor is that the last Pope's retirement wasn't entirely his own idea. Apparently, Popes can be pressured out of office is that's true.

2013-10-22 10:01:35 AM
Congratulations. Common sense has arrived. The rest of us have had it, forever.

As long as he doesn't poke around the Vatican's bank books, he should be OK.

And the MSM. They have plenty of stories about the Kardashians and SpongeBob tombstones, however.

Sadly, this will most likely be the last Franciscan that will ever be named pope. We'll never see a relatively young pope like JPII again either.

2013-10-22 10:02:55 AM
The fact that this guy is still alive might indicate that guardian angels do indeed exist.

2013-10-22 10:03:30 AM
It seems as though this guy is trying to get himself ventilated or 'overprescribed'.

Sounds like our pastor. We remarked that Francis said to lay off the constant abortion droning and he added an extra page to the missal with a calendar of "pro-life" rallies and rosaries and places to protest.

Yes, abortion didn't stop being a sin, neither did murder and adultery, yet people aren't going on and on ad nauseum about those. Keep your hate out of other people's business.

Catholics, when you're done with him, can he be Atheist Pope?  Please?  A lot of us are assholes and we need a nice person in a leadership position.

You mean the pontificate is a political position?  Since when?

Well, yes, he's a christian that actually believes what the book teaches.

Jesus was pretty goddamn commie too. We just kind of choose to ignore those parts of the book. How the fark else do you think the prosperity gospel even *exists*?

Pretty sure he's working with prosecutors in Italy to root out fraud in the Vatican Bank...

1980 years ago,roughly speaking.

That makes me cool - right?

Well, they don't exactly fire them.  They send in a Hit-Monk...

If Pope Francis doesn't watch out, he'll end up accidentally dying in his bed suddenly like John Paul I.

Jesuit, not a franciscan. (So, a Jesuit who took the *name* Francis. Oh yeah, catholic church is in for a shakeup...)

/Not a catholic
//Did go to a Jesuit university for undergrad, though.
/// GO XAVIER

Hey, Pope Francis - can you do something about the US. Conference of Catholic Bishops, please? Most of them are ideological Christians and they keep meddling in governmental affairs.

/yes, I'm trolling.

You know what?  I'm a dyed-in-the-wool atheist, largely with a live-and-let-live mentality, but ... I like this guy.  He doesn't cotton to the excesses of his position, welcomes everyone (though he still things teh ghey is wrong), he's open to biblical interpretation rather than sticking rigidly to The Word, and now we find he thinks fundamentalism is bullshiat.

Good on ya, Pope dude.  You'll catch some heat for saying it, but fark 'em if they can't handle the truth.  They need to hear it, so good job saying it.

/Heh heh heh.  Butt fark.

Jesuit, not Franciscan.  Similar but with significant differences.  On a comparative political scale, a Franciscan would be a centrist whereas a Jesuit would be considered a Progressive liberal.  Granter that's comparative.

2013-10-22 10:09:30 AM
Are we sure he isn't some sort of lutheran plant?   (ELCA of course.)   (Missouri Synod, he's talking about you here.)

Yeah, but how the FARK did he get his sensible notions past all those cardinals and become pope?

I am really starting to like this dude.
