(Sportige)   It's hard to believe that some head coach was ever going to let Josh Freeman throw the ball 53 times in one game with someone named Adrian Peterson in the backfield, but apparently such a person exists   (sportige.com ) divider line

Sapper_Topo: as a Vikes fan I would just like to say the following. Ahem. Josh Freeman is going to work out but not after 2 weeks with the team. What is really at work here is the complete and total failure of the coaching staff. Musgrave needs to be fired NOW! Frazier I believe is a good coach but he is loyal to his coordinators to a fault. Singletary has the defensive schemes of a parks and rec league or Pop Warner coach. The only positive thing right now is special teams, and with Blair Walsh injured even that is getting to be a let down. Freeman is not to blame here. I actually think I will like him at QB. At least he can throw beyond 10 yards. Now get AP and Patterson the DAMN BALL!

How can you say he's good? You think he's done a good job with the secondary, which he should be? Is he elevating ANYONE above expectations?

He's terrible.

2013-10-22 12:42:44 PM
While some of it could be blamed on not knowing the playbook, most of Freeman's throws were off target and farking terrible.

I think the perfect summation of how shiatty the game was during a kick off return when the returner tripped, hit the turf and fumbled the ball completely on his own. The vikings troubles were all self inflicted. Christian Ponder would have been a better fit.

I have honestly never seen a worse game of supposedly professional football ever played.  The poor announcers struggled the whole game to try to apply lipstick to one horrifically ugly pig.  I've seen better Div 1a homecoming games

Shoot the JFL JV game I went to on Saturday was more intertaining and my cousin's team lost 26-0 while only makiing 2 first downs.

every play, 2 tight ends, fullback, hand off to AP.

Superbowl is assured.

Sign another Olineman, pretend he is your QB and let AP run behind him. Same with TEs and WRs. Everyone but AP. 10 300lbs dude running downfield, smacking DBs in the mouth, while AP takes a leisurely stroll into the endzone.

This is the time of the season where that isn't totally unviable.

No QB. Just 10 dudes blocking for AP.

FTFY

Freeman is awful, and don't give me this "oh he only had two weeks" crap. Guys come in on one week and don't set records for overthrowing WRs, set records for fewest yards with most attempts, etc. against one of the very worst defenses in the league.

Matt Cassel could've at least earned a FG.

I like this solution better than the application of "Give AP the ball and if he can't score every time, then we give up and throw."  Very rarely have I seen this work with hall-of-fame running backs and mediocre to terrible QBs.

It reminds me of the 2011 Hawks vs. Ravens game where Rice was given the ball 5 times and they passed on everything else while Lynch was fed the rock enough to wear down the D-line and eventually kill the last 6 minutes of the game.

For the record, it takes me a couple of weeks to adjust to no baseball. The World Series is like a nice slow methodone drip. Eventually it gets out of my system, but it takes some time. I'll start watching movies again to fill my time.

That started in the second quarter. Tirico and Gruden knew it was a dog of a game, shiat Gruden was calling for Ponder to come in to start the second half.

He and Ryen were talking about the digs he took at the game on the radio show, apparently SVP thought almost no one would be watching after a game that bad.  As it turns out, he said Sports Center got over a 3 last night.

2013-10-22 01:31:29 PM
Watched the game last night because I parlayed NY -4 and Under 49. The Vikings' O-line was awful and Freeman seemed constantly hurried even when he wasn't under pressure. His receivers were getting open but then he'd either over throw them or the ball would bounce off their hands. Some plays looked like a Jr. College scrimmage.

/And Hillis is a tough SOB

jayhawk88: I didn't watch this snorefest, but AP did have 13 carries last night, it's not like he was completely ignored. If the Giants were playing all 11 guys within 15 yards of the ball and daring Josh Freeman to beat them, another 10-15 AP carries for 17-30 additional yards probably wasn't going to be a game changer.

20 yards would have been enough to move me up one place in my fantasy league standings.

So yeah, game changer.

This is true. Freeman has always sucked. The only reason he wasn't out on his ass last year is because of a string of comeback wins in his first season caused by, you guessed it, being down because he sucked for the first 3.75 quarters.

He was throwing to Tacopants

Tacopants' bio from MGoBlog:  Tacopants is Jason Avant's eleven-foot tall imaginary friend. Chad Henne spent much of 2005 hitting him between the numbers, which are unfortunately eight feet off the ground and made of dreams. Blessed with infinite eligibility and the ability to sneak on and off the field without alerting the referees -- made of dreams, remember -- Tacopants has taken a lesser role in the offense as Henne matures but still pops up at inopportune times. The term has its genesis in this post

Anyone that says give Freeman a chance to learn the playbook doesn't seem to understand that his completion percentage when he knows the playbook is only a tick better than it was last night. Not knowing a route does not cause you to throw the ball 10 yards out of bounds on a legitimate attempted pass. He's awful.

2013-10-22 03:58:49 PM
The course is clear...trade AP for a boatload of draft picks, leave Freeman in the rest of the year to see if he's worth keeping, fire Frazier in Jan, and hope for the future. At very least it's better for AP, and just maybe wind up with a viable QB.
