(Sportige)   It's hard to believe that some head coach was ever going to let Josh Freeman throw the ball 53 times in one game with someone named Adrian Peterson in the backfield, but apparently such a person exists   (sportige.com) divider line 146

53 times when he hasn't even had a chance to learn the names of the receivers yet.

Yucky game played with yucky players, except Allen's sack of Eli was quite impressive.

Because the O-line is not skilled enough to block against most High School teams.

Steve Young trashed the coaching decisions by the Vikings. I couldn't argue.

And I don't care if Rick Reilly was right, I wanted Ray Lewis to pile drive him into the turf. Hard.

Christ, that was a horrible game....just beyond boring, with two shiatty teams competing to see who could suck just a little less.

Had to laugh when I saw the bar at our local bowling alley, which has a big to-do for every MNF game, with food and prizes and all that.  They usually get a fair sized crowd, but I peeked in last night just before halftime and there was not a single person in the place except the bartender...kinda tells you what people thought of this game.

Peterson couldn't really get it going last night either.  It was hard to watch.

2013-10-22 11:00:05 AM
Yeah, Peterson was a non-factor in that game as soon as it became clear that the Vikings had absolutely no passing attack (which was pretty much immediately).  They could have handed off to him all night and the end result would have been practically identical.

If Freeman could have completed even a couple semi-deep balls it would have changed their running game completely.

that game was just...so hard to watch.

as a Vikes fan I would just like to say the following. Ahem. Josh Freeman is going to work out but not after 2 weeks with the team. What is really at work here is the complete and total failure of the coaching staff. Musgrave needs to be fired NOW! Frazier I believe is a good coach but he is loyal to his coordinators to a fault. Singletary has the defensive schemes of a parks and rec league or Pop Warner coach. The only positive thing right now is special teams, and with Blair Walsh injured even that is getting to be a let down. Freeman is not to blame here. I actually think I will like him at QB. At least he can throw beyond 10 yards. Now get AP and Patterson the DAMN BALL!

I thought it was awesome hearing Tirico and Gruden bash these two teams. Bad teams are bad.

I thought Freeman did a good job considering the circumstances.

The highlight of today is the faint din of weeping wafting over the border.  If it's perceptible here in Milwaukee, I can only imagine the racket out by Chippewa Falls.

/Proven fact--Minnesota sucks.
//Just the sports teams--the state is OK.

2013-10-22 11:06:04 AM
And gawd, what an ugly game.  Even John Gruden couldn't find anything nice to say about anyone by about half way through the third quarter.

Although Mrs. Hobnail and I decided that Coughlin face is superior to Manning face for entertainment value.

I didn't watch this snorefest, but AP did have 13 carries last night, it's not like he was completely ignored. If the Giants were playing all 11 guys within 15 yards of the ball and daring Josh Freeman to beat them, another 10-15 AP carries for 17-30 additional yards probably wasn't going to be a game changer.

This; the Giants made a statement:  We want Josh Freeman to beat us.  They called it right and won.

I cant speak for Vikings fans only myself but what I see from CP is ability and speed. But for whatever reason the coaches try to force the ball down Simpson and Jennings throats. CP burns it up as soon as he gets the ball hes got potential that goes way beyond our veteran WR stable> I mean if were going to have a losing season make this guy a franchise receiver and not just another slot jockey.

That wasn't the *worst* Monday night game ever, but its top 10 and maybe top 5 material.

Freeman hasn't been there long enough to try 50+ passes. And even AP can't run well against 9 in the box on every farking play.

To quote one of the Harbaughs: That was just poor.

Frasier and Musgrave need to go, and clean out that front office. What you have now is a train wreck of embarrasing proportion.

Wow, it must have gotten truly awful. I just made a comment over in the other thread that ESPN never, ever admits that they got stuck serving up a shiat sandwich, but I didn't watch any of the second half.

Side note: Watching them on the field together, it made me wonder whether Carolina should be the ranked as high as they are.  The Panthers have wins against these two crippled mutts and the awful Rams.  They should beat TB on Thursday, but 1-8 for the rest of the season may be a realistic projection.

I had some friends who worked with the team (Vols). Their description was, "He's dumb as shiat, doesn't know the playbook, doesn't run good routes but he's too talented to ignore." I can't really vouch for their description as I never met the guy, but if that's true it might explain in part why he's not getting looks. He's probably down there as option 3 or 4 because they don't trust him to be where he's supposed to be, especially on timing routes.

One of the announcers stated late in the game that it seemed like a preseason game, which was spot on.
At halftime I was convinced that Hakeem Nicks was openly attempting to throw the game.
The most important question of the night about the game would be: Is Peyton Hillis worth picking up as a running back in fake football?

Jacobs may be back next week, so it would be unlikely he sees too many touches in the near future.

I had wondered where Peyton Hillis went.  He seemed to be on a Kenny Powers career trajectory, just in the NFL.

Also, does Freeman not know how to run an option or a bootleg or something?  He is decently athletic enough to do something with his feet to get a little more space from the defense.

Also also, every NYG receiver needs to be shiatcanned... that performance was just awful.

He's terrible.

While some of it could be blamed on not knowing the playbook, most of Freeman's throws were off target and farking terrible.

I think the perfect summation of how shiatty the game was during a kick off return when the returner tripped, hit the turf and fumbled the ball completely on his own. The vikings troubles were all self inflicted. Christian Ponder would have been a better fit.

Freeman is awful, and don't give me this "oh he only had two weeks" crap. Guys come in on one week and don't set records for overthrowing WRs, set records for fewest yards with most attempts, etc. against one of the very worst defenses in the league.

Matt Cassel could've at least earned a FG.

I like this solution better than the application of "Give AP the ball and if he can't score every time, then we give up and throw."  Very rarely have I seen this work with hall-of-fame running backs and mediocre to terrible QBs.

It reminds me of the 2011 Hawks vs. Ravens game where Rice was given the ball 5 times and they passed on everything else while Lynch was fed the rock enough to wear down the D-line and eventually kill the last 6 minutes of the game.

This is a hard time of the year for me. It is even worse, because the Dodgers were oh so close. From February through October, my TV viewing is focused on baseball. In August/September, I'll add Red Zone to the list on Sundays.

Last night, I put on the MNF game because I was bored out of my skull. I try to stay away from MNF unless the Broncos are playing cause the games are usually stinkers.

Last night, I made it through the 1st half and it was mostly because I wasn't paying much attention. I gave my daughter a bath and spent more time trying to get her to sleep than I did watching the game. But what I saw was terrible, just terrible.

For the record, it takes me a couple of weeks to adjust to no baseball. The World Series is like a nice slow methodone drip. Eventually it gets out of my system, but it takes some time. I'll start watching movies again to fill my time.

//boys asked me last night (5 and 3) why the Dodgers weren't on. They just like sitting with me and watching the games. I told my youngest son that they won't be on until after his birthday.
//Baby girl is 8 mos. old and she has spent lots of time watching games with me. I'm pretty sure she is going to be a nutso fan, much to my wife's displeasure. She is a daddy's girl through and through.

2013-10-22 01:31:29 PM
Watched the game last night because I parlayed NY -4 and Under 49. The Vikings' O-line was awful and Freeman seemed constantly hurried even when he wasn't under pressure. His receivers were getting open but then he'd either over throw them or the ball would bounce off their hands. Some plays looked like a Jr. College scrimmage.

/And Hillis is a tough SOB

jayhawk88: I didn't watch this snorefest, but AP did have 13 carries last night, it's not like he was completely ignored. If the Giants were playing all 11 guys within 15 yards of the ball and daring Josh Freeman to beat them, another 10-15 AP carries for 17-30 additional yards probably wasn't going to be a game changer.

20 yards would have been enough to move me up one place in my fantasy league standings.

So yeah, game changer.

Derek Carr, Fresno State
Brett Hundley, UCLA

This is true. Freeman has always sucked. The only reason he wasn't out on his ass last year is because of a string of comeback wins in his first season caused by, you guessed it, being down because he sucked for the first 3.75 quarters.

He was throwing to Tacopants

Tacopants' bio from MGoBlog:  Tacopants is Jason Avant's eleven-foot tall imaginary friend. Chad Henne spent much of 2005 hitting him between the numbers, which are unfortunately eight feet off the ground and made of dreams. Blessed with infinite eligibility and the ability to sneak on and off the field without alerting the referees -- made of dreams, remember -- Tacopants has taken a lesser role in the offense as Henne matures but still pops up at inopportune times. ladodger34: chevydeuce: Christ, that was a horrible game....just beyond boring, with two shiatty teams competing to see who could suck just a little less.

This story was almost as boring as last night's game.

Anyone that says give Freeman a chance to learn the playbook doesn't seem to understand that his completion percentage when he knows the playbook is only a tick better than it was last night. Not knowing a route does not cause you to throw the ball 10 yards out of bounds on a legitimate attempted pass. He's awful.

2013-10-22 03:58:49 PM
The course is clear...trade AP for a boatload of draft picks, leave Freeman in the rest of the year to see if he's worth keeping, fire Frazier in Jan, and hope for the future. At very least it's better for AP, and just maybe wind up with a viable QB.

In spirit, I agree with your rhetoric here, but I think you're boxing it in very generously. I think things like that are where any group gets their reputation for marginalizing any underrepresented group.

Yes, football fans do it. But so does pretty much everyone. When you are a member of a rather homogenous group, anything even remotely heterogenous becomes fodder for the insult cannon. I mean, you can get bullied for having a peanut allergy these days as long as you have nut eaters willing to marginalize you.

Audible sighs from both.
"Heck of a scoring drive by the Giants. 0 yards for 3 points."
"This has the feel of a pre-season game."

No one was carrying water for that game after the mid-point of the 3rd quarter.

I said both teams should be forced to punt or kick-off then get the ball at the 20 if they don't score on the return. Then try the FG.
Sure enough the next two plays were special teams clownshoes followed by a 0-yard 'drive'.

The Jags can beat the Giants or Vikings. Seriously.

Yeah, this.  The Viqueens* have no answer for 8 or 9 in the box.  Not even a fake handoff followed by a shovel pass at the line or a sweep to the perimiter.  Nothing, nada, zilch.  It's like the second coming of Brad Childress but with slightly less pomposity.

The Jags can beat the Giants or Vikings. Seriously.

True story: Rick Spielman and the Minnsota Vikinings were sad that the Jags "stole" Blaine Gabbert from them in the same draft they picked up Ponder.

"Stole".

hobnail: cannotsuggestaname: Devo: I wonder if losing a son is affecting AP. I might mail it in at work for a week or two.

They stacked the box against AP and then Musgrave thought it was a good idea to just keep trying to jam AP up the middle. Of /course/ AP didn't get good yardage.

Yeah, this.  The Viqueens* have no answer for 8 or 9 in the box.  Not even a fake handoff followed by a shovel pass at the line or a sweep to the perimiter.  Nothing, nada, zilch.  It's like the second coming of Brad Childress but with slightly less pomposity.

*I've been cheering for these mutts my whole life so I'll call them what ever I damn well please.

Dan Synder?

Ha! Nice.  Mutts is Caninephobic by the way...  Best stick with something racist or against retards or babys.  I think pre-op trannies are ok to mock too.

Have you TF'ers gotten the post count over 100 yet?

Bunny Deville: bionicjoe: czetie: Jim from Saint Paul: Oh and Mike Tirico.... MIKE FRICKIN TIRICO called this a BAD football game a few minutes into the 3rd.

Wow, it must have gotten truly awful. I just made a comment over in the other thread that ESPN never, ever admits that they got stuck serving up a shiat sandwich, but I didn't watch any of the second half.

It got horrible in the 4th.
Audible sighs from both.
"Heck of a scoring drive by the Giants. 0 yards for 3 points."
"This has the feel of a pre-season game."

No one was carrying water for that game after the mid-point of the 3rd quarter.

Or short people. It's always OK to make fun of people who are foolish enough to choose to be short.

I seriously wonder if there is a point at which word comes down from the ESPN Suits telling the Talent that it's OK to stop pretending, this one is too far gone? Perhaps during half-time, when they acknowledge that things are so bad, pretending otherwise will do more damage to the brand than being honest?

Normally, the NFL Game Rewind folks have been pretty good this season about getting the Monday Night game up pretty promptly after the game is over. As of this writing, the Vikings/Giants game still isn't up. My suspicion would be that it's driven at least three video editors to madness.

They have a computer that detects highlights from games but that Monday Night game was like telling the machine to divide by zero.

They should get him together with the guy who called plays for OU in the national championship game against the Tebowgators. Oklahoma has the ball first and goal with Sam Bradford, the most prolific passer in Sooner history times a billionty, and an injured running back (DeMarco Murray). So what do they do?

Run the ball 4 straight plays and get stopped.
