"Our team is bringing in some of the best and brightest from both inside and outside government to scrub in with the team and help improve HealthCare.gov," an HHS blog post said on Sunday.
HHS did not respond to a request for confirmation about Verizon. The company also declined to comment.

"Our team is bringing in some of the best and brightest from both inside and outside government to scrub in with the team and help improve HealthCare.gov," an HHS blog post said on Sunday.

Leaving everyone to wonder why, for hundreds of millions of dollars, you couldn't get the "best and brightest" the FIRST time around.

/also if the original contractors are going to be barred from bidding on new projects as a penalty for epic failure

When the government wants to be overcharged, they go right to the experts.

\seriously though, why aren't they calling in MS to do this if they want a current contractor?

If Fartbongo is as petty and vindictive as we've been told recently, they'll be "disappeared".

In reality, they've probably already been set up for life by the Koch brothers

The federal portal has a lot of problems, but there's also a lot of success stories being lost in all the noise, and I've been collecting them here:

http://acasuccessstories.tumblr.com/

I know some Farkers have chimed in on these threads with their own stories of how the ACA has helped them. If you have a story about how the ACA has helped you or someone you know, please share it here:  http://acasuccessstories.tumblr.com/submit

We now return you to your regularly scheduled trolling. :)

I gotta believe that most companies wanted to stay far, far away from "helping" here.

There's very little chance for an upside and all kinds of risk being associated with the fiasco.

You can't fix lack of requirements with hardware or bandwidth.

wow, the right wing has found it's new talking point eh? "We hate government, so any failure, even if it is only a minor inconvenience is proof we should not help people get insurance!"

Please. It's a huge launch, in an environment that is changing daily, under a political microscope. I'm not shocked it had some hiccups. They came at the start. It'll be fine. Also note, while new plans start on Jan. 1, as far as I've seen the eligibility period - the time after-which you have to pay the fee - isn't until March 30th.

I was able to judge my eligibility very easily, even if the website was slow. I'm not one tiny sliver displeased.

That's obviously because you're one of those moochers/takers/liberals/socialists that would rather suck off the government teat/steal from the makers than get off your lazy ass and down to the bootstrap manufacturing plant.

Given that people are actually able to use the site with enough patience, I'm left to wonder how much of these "problems" are due to inept idiots who have trouble using a cell phone. You know, the ones who routinely call IT because their printer doesn't work and the first fix IT always has to suggest is "Is it plugged in?" because half the time it isn't?

Are some of the people unable to use the site simply morons?

I think that most of the problem is that people that are having the most issues are using a browser besides IE. With most new government sites it is best to use IE because they usually don't support other browsers when they first launch them. After a few months support will be added for other browsers, but at launch always use IE. Also they are probably also still having issues with the volume of people trying to access the site.

And how many people can't get past creating an account because they for some reason can't follow the password rules and come up with a password that meets the requirements. This is the one thing that I could never understand, for example the website says to come up with a password 8 characters long, has at least 1 number and a special character, and people can't do that. Even trying to walk people through it they refuse to follow the rule and will sit and argue with you about why they can't make it how they want. Wiki:
The term "single-payer" thus only describes the funding mechanism-referring to health care financed by a single public body from a single fund-and does not specify the type of delivery, or for whom doctors work. Although the fund holder is usually the state, some forms of single-payer use a mixed public-private system.

OK, I'll choose 'hunter🐈2'. I assume the website will be able to parse that correctly, and it won't throw an error because the programmer had his own private list of valid "special" characters I was expected to use (e.g. excluding anything which would break an improperly-quoted SQL command in the back-end database).

I think his point was that the Republicans aren't going to back something simply to oppose Obama: it also needs to make a shiatload of money for a major contributor (eg, the Kochs).  Government-run single-payer isn't going to do that.

I LOL'd. This is my in-laws. Same thing for getting a cell phone. MIL has one of the original Nokia flip phones and thinks the evil, greedy cell phone moguls purposely programmed her phone to be incapable of assigning each contact a different ringtone because they want her to pay a gazillion dollars for a newfangled smart phone. It's all a big conspiracy to take her money.

She needed about an hour long tutorial on how to open up Martha Stewart's website once they finally got the internet (Only about 8 years ago). She biatched about the whole complicated process of navigating through the site.
