As predicted back when it was launched, the system was a total failure.  I'm surprised they continued making them this long.  And motion controls?  A gimmick.  Nobody's going to play games without a traditional remote.  Thankfully, the other systems figured that out.  Heh.

I have to say, I haven't been playing it as much these past few years, but it had some good games, was pretty affordable, and I had a lot of fun with it, so I considered it a worthwhile purchase.  Not that it was enough to convince me to get a WiiU.  I'll stick with playing older games for awhile and pick up stuff here and there off steam, and then maybe in a year or two I'll get whichever of the new systems appeals to me the most.  Which probably won't be the WiiU.

I'll put my vote behind the Super Nintendo.  Bonus: With the small size of an emulator and ROMs, I always have a Super Nintendo of sorts around.

And for some stupid reason, the virtual console purchases from a Wii don't run natively on a WiiU.  It adds an extra layer of emulation.

I just don't see any real reason to upgrade from a Wii to a WiiU.  I probably use my Wii more for Gamecube discs than Wii games, and it still collects dust most of the time.

Nentendo is such a awful company they didn't realize the wii was a failure until they sold 100 million units.

Problem is, hardware sales are just a means to an end: software sales.  I don't remember what the profit margin was on the Wii, although I know it wasn't a loss like is usually the norm for consoles.  Problem is, a large number of Wii sales were to people who were happy with just Wii Sports.  Maybe they bought a couple more games, but the Wii's success was nowhere near what its install base would usually indicate.

I bought my mom one from ebay in 2006 and she's still playing it to this day. Her favorite game is that one Army men game made by 3DO. I wish I could find a cheap copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day. On my 13th birthday I got Conker's and I loved it. I thought it was funny my dad had to show ID for it. All the copies I see are stupidly expensive and the Xbox remake I played just didn't really feel the same. It also didn't have the multiplayer modes the original had, lolol in tediz versus squirrels you could go in the bathroom and kill people with you pee.

And a month from today I will be receiving my first video game console ever. I know, I'm an idiot because I bought the new Xbox, at least partially because my DVD and htpc recently croaked. To make matters even worse I probably won't even buy a game for it for several months because I don't really have time to play the Damn thing. No, I'm not going to build a better htpc for less money or join the matter race. Yes, $500 is a Substantial amount of money... It's just not so much that I really give a shiat. I'm getting it through Amazon - if I don't like it I'll send it back after a few weeks... assuming I get time to use it in the first thirty days that is. Being constantly employed for twenty years is a double edged sword in that I can afford a new console without much of a problem... But I don't have much Time to use it. Oh well - easy come easy go.

There is no emulation. What the Wii U does is downclock itself and run the Wii operating system. It does this because it has a triple core CPU that is basically 3 Wii CPUs superclocked, and a compatible GPU. Thus it ensures 100% backwards compatibility.

Reasons to upgrade to a Wii U include new games with better graphics. Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D World, Zombi U, Nintendo Land, Rayman Legends, New Super Mario Brothers U and New Super Luigi U, and Wind Waker HD are all good games. Next year will bring Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, X, and Bayonetta 2, among others.

The hardware inside the Wii U is verifiably better than a 360-PS3. It has a triple core CPU and a GPU equivalent to a high end 2009 PC GPU (in comparison the GPU in the PS4 is equivalent to a high end 2011 PC GPU), and more and better RAM.

So, yeah. Proceed to system troll now.

I've no clue why nintendo is killing the wii so soon, instead of using it as their budget console for lower income folks and emerging markets.  Sony was able to milk tens of millions of sales post next gen for each of theirs, while Nintendo seemed to have killed wii dev a good year and a half before the wii U released.

With the wii U struggling, it seems like a very, very odd choice.

Just got a Wii for the first time on Saturday, and I have to say I love it.  Not for Wii games, mind you.  But if you load up the Homebrew Channel, you can put emulators for NES, SNES, and N64 and a few other systems.  Some N64 games don't run great, but Starfox 64 and Ocarina of Time both do.  And for now that's good enough for me.

Good. Worst console I ever bought. Waving an uncomfortably-shaped dildo at the TV while Link has an epileptic seizure in grainy 480p graphics is not my idea of gaming. It's only slightly better than finger-banging on oversized telephone to try and cross bird flu with swine flu.

Motion controls are so cheesy even my Roku came with one.  It's kind of awkward playing Angry Birds on it and by "awkward" I mean I've played it once or twice and it sucks.

No. They removed the ports and the slots for Gamecube memory cards. Which at least makes it easy to tell by looking if it is compatible or not.

I think it's a pity that it was removed. One of the major factors for me choosing to buy a Wii in the first place was knowing that after spending £15 on a controller and memory card I could enjoy two consoles in one. I never owned a Gamecube so it was nice to be able to buy those games at a discount price. There are some real crackers for it as well. IMO Soul Calibur II alone was worth the cost of the extra kit.

bought the wife one back in late 06, early 07 and still have it.  few games I like to play on it but it is her baby.  She loves the Pikmin games as well as Zelda and both of us love the Mario and DK games.  Although I have a special place in my heart for the Rabbids games.

/and to think just last night as she was playing her newest game (Smurfs 2 trust me don't waste your money) she was saying she wanted to get another console cause this one is having trouble reading discs.  Better get to looking around.

There's over 100 games that sold over a million a piece. Are you sure you even looked?
